Emotionally Disturbed Females and Cats

Let me preface this by saying this is going only by my ancedotal experience, which is the least reliable of all evidence.

While owninig a cat certainly doesn't mean someone is emotionally disturbed, I have found that of the crazier females that i dated, one thing they all had in common was that they had pet cats. And the more cats they owned the more crazy they were, almost in direct proportion.

So a potential red flag, if other red flags are present, is the owning of a cat or multiple cats.

Funny! I tend to see this myself.

My cousin has so many cats she won't tell anyone the number. She's not very stable to say the least.

If you have only one cat, like me, that means you are just a little crazy.

LOL!

I dunno, I think maybe you are onto something. I too had a cat and I actually want a new one now. Maybe later when I am living alone since I am not allowed pets in the house.

But isn't owning a cat same as owning a dog?

I think we all have a lil bit of crazy in us, but I agree that the crazier ones own more cats. Weirdly I guess I don't really see the same thing in women with multiple dogs for instance..

Not to say they aren't even a tad bit crazy.

I think cats are very selfish creatures... dogs, on the other hand, are more loyal

I am a huge animal lover, and I absolutely LOVE cats! They are so cute, and fuzzy, and independent. So naturally, I disagree.

Besides I know tons of cat lovers that are stable.

Actually when I think of crazy, I think of the guy off of "Silence of the Lambs" and he had a dog.

Sometimes we aren't in the best position to judge our own stability...

heh. while i'm not sure your anecdotal evidence is enough to support said hypothesis. . . i personally don't ever want as many pets as some of the people I know have. and i dont want them in the bed. ever. i can live with *on* the bed, if they're at the bottom, but nowhere near my face please.

if i got a house, one cat is welcome, 2 is pushing it, and a dog or two dependent on their size and the size of the yard. Oh, and they're all going to be well trained. No ones scratching up my furniture or peeing on the rug. . .and that goes for kids too!

i've been living in apartments for a while though, and there's barely enough room for me and another person. add in some animals and its getting crowded. i like animals and all, but i'm just not ready for another one yet.

I have yet to deconstruct the dog owners.

I'm surprised at how much agreement there is so far...especially among cat owners!

Haha! True, you would imagine cat owners (I myself used to be one) would be getting all defensive..

Hmmm...

I think if they were really crazy they wouldn't admit it.

I think it depends why people own cats. Some people just want to give it affection which is ok. I think the crazyness starts to develope when they allow the cats to keep multiplying and walking all over house shedding fur, maybe peeing a bit on the carpets, and the owners just see it as normal.

And then even bring people/guys over and are like: hey.. welcome to my house, feel free to sit anywhere where there isn't a cat. Don't mind the pee smell.

Well actually I have heard indoor dogs too seem to create a "dog" smell in the house though.

I have a cat...and yes, I can be occasionally crazy.

Then again, there are also the kind of crazies who have too many dogs. I think the number of pets is more indicative than the type of pet.

Cats help this... As they are very fickle, funny creatures with as much mental stability as a worn spring. I love my cat and I'm a guy, I had three but it was to much hassle and chaos for one house.

I think girls with small dogs are more of a red flag.

When I first read the title of the thread, i thought it meant disturbed females AND disturbed cats, not the females' cats. lol!

Anywase, I own a large number of cats, but half are not my fault, they are my husband's. He feels bad when he finds kittens hungry in the streets. He's responsible for over half the cats in our house.

however, the cats are required to use the litter boxes or outside, they are not allowed on tables or counters, if we have guest over, we put most of the cats in the bedroom or bathroom so they don't irritate the guests, ect. There are multiple amounts of bowls of food and water spread out through the house, plus multiple litter boxes. All the cats are neutered/spayed and current on shots, all wear collars or harnesses with tags on them.

We may be Crazy cat people, but at least we aren't Creepy. [i consider creepy being the ones who smell like cat pee all the time, their house smells, their clothes smell, ect, and they have more than they can actually take care of, ie filthy litter boxes, not enough food, ect]

I must definitely be a crazy-cat person because I can't stay away from this thread.

Cats are so wonderful, and they are clean! You bathe them, and feed them, and they use a poop box.

Dogs crap everywhere, and drool everywhere, and they eat out of the garbage, and they eat their own crap.

I mean, what's not crazy about that?

Guess I'll be the lone cat lover (I grew up with them) here to say that cat ownership does not correspond to emotional disturbance. Having said that, anyone who has an abnormally large number of pets -- cats, dogs, ferrets, whatever -- does seem to have a touch of the craziness. In my experience, of course.

PS I only have one cat.

Well, anybody who has a cat they leave outdoors all night has to know that the cat doesn't hold it in until coming home to the litter box....cats poop and pee outdoors as well if they are left outdoors all night. My last dog can attest to that because he always ended up eating cat poo (he wouldn't go near dog poo)!!

As for eating out of the garbage....I have a lid on my kitchen garbage pail.....that is why going to my parents' place is such a treat for my dog....there is no lid on their garbage pail!

I am not a cat lover...don't like their aloofness and unpredictability. I do like kittens...they are cute and their inquisitiveness can be quite amusing.

I think cats are cleaner, but that is if you subtract the existence of the poop box which has to be cleaned daily. Their fur smells better though.

Not all cats are aloof or unpredictable. I've had both dogs and cats, and the best pet I ever had was a cat who absolutely adored me! He died a few years ago and it still makes me tear up when I think about him.

I hope this thread doesn't devolve into a cat vs dog discussion. They both have their merits and no one is wrong or right. I love animals, period.

this is why cats are awesome. they can't be controlled and do what you want them to do. sure you can litter box train them and what not.

but i think this thread is a bit of a hoax. i think your experience is you have dated a lot of women with cats. well, most women are crazy. it's not the cat. i've known plenty of women with dogs that were nuts. and plenty of crazy women without animals altogether. this conclusion doesn't work.

so now when you meet a woman are you gonna ask? 'do you have a cat?'

Posted

Um; maybe you should look at is as some cats have some crazy owners whom you happened to date? It is not like the cats had a choice on whom took them home.

I have a cat (though she is living with my parents again now). I would consider myself quite stable & emotionally healthy.

I now have a bunny rabbit - and while he is a bit crazy, I certainly am far from it.

I know plenty of pet owners of cats, dogs, rats or fish...whatever...whom are perfectly stable. Others whom aren't. The same can be said of people whom have no pets at all.
