Solving insecurities about your looks..

Hey guys,

Just thought id let you know...

Up until now, I used to compare myself with everyone - especially the way I looked, and it used to get me down so much cos I'd feel i was not as good as other people and as good looking. The weird thing is a lot of people would look at me and tell me i was really pretty but it did not stop me feeling so insecure bout my looks.

guys since ive stopped comparing myself to others, it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulder. You have to make a conscious effort not to compare, (as im sure a lot of people do naturally. i think?) but it makes the world of a difference.

Just thought i'd let you' all out there know!

Peace out

Ironically, I found that through comparison with others, my self esteem and image of myself only went UP, not down. I don't know...

I think, comparatively speaking, well... there's a lot worse out there. So be happy with what you've got! That was what helped me. Might sound arrogant, but it was what made me snap out of it. Sure, I may never be a 10 physically, I admit that, but I'm by no means a 2 or a 3 either!! lol

I'm glad you found a release from this burden. I'm glad I did too. I'm not totally out yet, but I feel so much better than how I had been.

A helpful thing I tell myself is that I have a unique look. I may not look like whats in magazines but I have a face and I can rock it and love it for being different.

Disclaimer-This is not to say that looking extremely unique and different is always a good thing.

Simply realising that as far as the fashions of any given society are concerned, there are people above you and there are people below you. It's how you work the hand that you have been dealt that makes the difference.

Good post. Growing up I thought I was the ugliest person in the known universe. I could always find something wrong with me. People would compliment me; however, I had such a low self concept of my that I thought they were lying to make me feel better. But, by learning to love myself and stop comparing it gave me the freedom to say..."Y'know, I'm fine just the way that I am."

Cheers.

I'm glad someone has succeeded with this.

I can't seem to stop comparing, even when I tell myself I won't do it anymore.

Dietrying,

If thats a photo of u right there, then I'm really confused cos thats a gorgeous picture.

Well....next time you find yourself comparing yourself to other girls, just stop. Think of something else, do something to stop you thinking about that. & Never compare yourself to the celebs on the magazines - if you were gettin photos airbrushed, you would be looking like that too.

Also....one thing I've realized is that everyone has such different opinions. Im sure that people you find unattractive, loads of other people will find attractive. You are never going to please everybody with the way you look and the way you are....but who cares? The key is to be happy about who you are.

And like everyone has said above, someone who is confident and comfortable in their own skin will seem ten times more attractive - it really is about your personality. I've just realized how much time Ive been wasting feeling bad about myself - almost feeling sorry for myself.

Who cares about the stupid media? When we are 50, gettin wrinkles and looking old - we will wish that we looked like we did wen we were in our 20s - so whats the point in us wasting that time now by wanting to look like someone else??

If you want to get more confident, put youself in new social situations. Do things you wouldn't normally do. Jump right in the deep end.....and somehow you'll find your way back up!

(This is all easy to say, but the more u work on it - the easier it gets.)

Peace out

Maybe I'll wear a rubber band and snap it? lol I hope I would look like that airbrushed. Can tell myself that anyway, lol.
