renaissancewoman101
Can you bring in notes to the interview to refer to? Or is that a big NO NO? I usually don't bring notes in, but someone told me that they did it and did not reflect badly on them. My interview is at 1 PM today, and I'm a bit nervous. Link to comment
MollyElise
Totally depends... what type of job, what type of notes? Link to comment
avman
I usually bring notes into an interview. I generally research the company I'm interviewing with in advance so I write down the questions I want to cover with them. I also bring copies of my resume, their job posting and description, and any other materials that I may have questions about. Now I think it would be bad to sit and read from your notes. But I don't think there is anything wrong with referring to them during an interview. Link to comment
mizz_sweety
To be honest i don't think it makes you look too good hun, I've had a few interveiws recently also and rather than taking the notes with me i tried remembering them by heart instead. You don't want the interveiwer to think you rely on notes all the time do you, in other words don't think u shud hun. Don't think it makes you look very profesional walking round with notes Link to comment
renaissancewoman101
It's for a tech writing job at an engineering firm. My notes cover some of the answers I may want to give to the employer depending what questions they ask. Link to comment

MollyElise
I wouldn't bring notes for a technical writing interview. I would bring samples of my work though, I think that would be great for you to do. Link to comment
Batya33
I would not bring notes. Rehearse if you need to. Link to comment

confused25
I wouldn't recommend you bringing the notes in to make the references. What "answers" are on your notes? Are they related to your past working experiences? If I were you I'd just try to memorize those answers. Link to comment
renaissancewoman101
Ok, no notes. I am rehearsing what I want to say. I might write down some questions as to what to ask at end of interview. I don't have any samples of my work. I created documentation for different navigational systems and I probably should have saved copies of the (test procedures that I wrote). Not sure if showing other company's work to another company (like test procedures that were created by me and impliemented in that company) would be a breach of something. Link to comment

Yes, that would likely be a breach of confidentiality. If you select samples to show another company you usually have to choose non confidential material and sanitize it by removing the company name and other references. Link to comment
Meow18
Just rehearse some things that they might ask you and just be confident! Good luck and let us know how it goes! Link to comment
JadedStar
Definitely memorize and rehearse your answers ahead of time. Acceptable notes would be questions you jotted down to ask them at the end of the interview...but not answers to THEIR interview questions. I agree with AVMAN about the confidentiality breach on the samples....you can't use other companies work. Link to comment

I keep it low pro and type them out because I cant read my own hand writing. But you dont want to be pausing and then looking down at yoru notes. Its has to happen naturally. Link to comment
