tylercdurden2004
Ok first of all: What kind of job interests you? Do you prefer to deal with people (are you socialable)? Do you prefer to deal with things (mechanically inclined)? Link to comment
StarLily
Nah don't do online applications. I never hear back from those. The one time I filled an applications at Target (IN store) I got a hired the very next day. So you could try that. Other than that I don't know what other store like that is a good place to work at. You could try one of the cool clothing stores too... Link to comment

Lana0120
Time consuming and tiring, but a good way of getting a job is actually walking around the area you would like to get a job and looking in windows to check for vacancies, walking in and applying. Also, find out if there are any job agencies near by as they might be able to get you a job or temporary job. Failing that (if you haven't tried already), there are probably jobs available at your university too. Link to comment
cichlid
Stay away from stores that do online applications! But anyway...talk with the head manager and make a good impression. When I was looking for a job when I was 18 y.o., I used this approach and was hired on the spot and had calls from a few places looking to have an interview with me. Link to comment
DaDancingPsych
I agree, apply in person. Remember to dress as if you already have the interview... you will be judged from the moment you enter that business. Also, tell your friends and people that you know that you are looking for a job. Sometimes they know where there is an opening or maybe have the pull to get you into a place. Be vocal. And keep trying... it will happen! If you want a full time job, you have to search full time! glegend
I've come to a conclusion about making job applications and sending in resumes. This mostly applies to any job in any retail type store. I've come up with this conclusion from my own experience but more so from the experience of a cousin of mine. We both put in a ton of applications, he did way before me. We all applied to retail stores where they have more then one location so we dropped off applications to all near by locations. Now I barley got any calls back, he did get a few and one of them he did get hired on spot after he got hired everyone started calling for him. So from this experience I've come to this conclusion "It doesn't matter how many applications you fill out and hand in its all about timing you can hand in one every day to the same store and they can never call you back because they don't want someone at that time." Lana0120
It's true - it can all be about timing. Link to comment
Portage
Have you considered a temp agency? They will (or most) hire p/t in the evenings and weekends. I believe the pay would be better than retail. Something to think about. Link to comment

Going to the place / person and bringing my resume and asking to arrange an interview is how I got all my first few jobs. Link to comment
glegend
Hey Gath I noticed what you wrote in your response. I was thinking on doing a similar thing. What I was thinking to do is just go with my cover letter, resume and references going into a store asking to speak with the manager and tell them "I want a job heres my resume" and just basically show them I am determined to get a job and show that I am serious. Do you think that it could work?? Link to comment
