Hey, I have a guy friend who is in the same dilemma as you and I told him the same thing, bearing in mind that you're shy the only way it'd go somewhere is one of you initiates the move so just ASK him outright if he'd like to go out with you one night and see how things move from there, or there is always the modern way of doing things, send him a secret admirer email, or spend more time hanging out and see how things progress from there...there really isn't anything to lose, not even friendship if you're really friends with him.
