  1. Hi, I can actually say that even I am suffering from this self control deficiency. For that matter everyone suffers from one or other self control problems. God has given us this life and has entrusted the responsibility of choosing the type of life we want, with us. Whether you like it or not, thats the truth. In certain aspects I have excellent control and in some I have zero control. I came accross an article which talks about the concept of Diminishing Distractions. We always associate our activities with pleasure or pain. It obviously gives us a lot of momentary pleasure in video games. There is pain in waking up early in the morning from the sleep and start exercising. Our taste buds want more of chips and other junk food. Eating friuts and vegetables instead of chips is painful. In the battle between painful and pleasureful activities our mind does not think about the end result of an activity. We need to rate the activities based on the end result. So a painful activity like jogging in the morning results in a good shaped body, where as pleasureful activity like over sleeping takes away the precious time early in the morning which results in a shorter day to do other important things. Its easier said than done. I totally agree. But we shouldn't give ourselves other easier choices. In this life you do it right or you will get eliminated. I am trying hard to follow a specific type of routine thats useful for my present life and paves the way for a good future life. But I am regularly irregular in doing that. Sometimes, in the battle of the titans (pain and pleasure) , the latter wins very easily. But I am continuing to fight. Hope this was helpful to you. Good luck. Thirdeye.
  2. Hi, I have this problem of not completing what I start. I just seem to lose interest in it. The most important and the best example is reading. When I start to read a book or an article or a study material (books of my interest and profession) I tend to get distracted easily and lose focus. My mind wavers around and I immedialty start to postpone the reading to another day and that day rarely comes. This way my knowledge is half full in a lot of things. I have tried to concentrate hard but that doesn't stay for long. Then I sit and do nothing or just browse around. The effects of not completing what I start: I definitely feel that it could have made me a better person in life had I completed what I started. Had I read the books and studied properly I could have been in a bigger place and in a better position. I had the best opportunities to succeed in a lot of situations but just didn't make use of them. I don't have the hunger for success I guess and thats costing a lot. I am 29 yrs old today. Mentally I have not grown to the extent of my liking. Please suggest the methods and techniques that can change my attitude. ThirdEye
  3. Hi all, I work for a software company which delivers software services for a Prominent Bank. I am not in a very high profile job. I am earning ok. Living comfortably. But just not happy with the kind of work I am doing. I started a small software firm 10 months back. Initially I was managing it ok. Another good thing about my work is that I either go early in the morning at 6:30 and get back home by 3:30 noon, or go by 1:30 noon and come back by 11:00 in the night. So when I go in the morning , I have the entire evening for free or when I go in the afternoon I have the entire morning. I was under the impression that I can manage my side business also well. But now I have started to feel that I lack the killer instinct for the business, I lack the skills for the business as my business as not grown much. I am not working hard have become very lethargic after finishing my regular work. I cannot quit my job as I am married and can't take a risk of loosing out on regular income. This income even feeds my business partly as well. I lack the time management skills. I am not managing my business well at all. Now can someone give me some time management advice. I also want to know how does once get the killer instinct for that power shot in business , how do people find time to learn new skills? What does it take to succeed both in career and life? I also lack the business communication skills needed for it grow. Help help and help needed. F1 please. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi, Though this thread message is late I would like to tell you something. Keep your mind clear always. Our mind is a very very powerful tool. It can actually sense the future, there are a few things that would try to stop us from doing something. Some events , incidents. We squelch all those thoughts. We tend to ignore them. Well these are hints of disasters. We tend to get into some problem or the other. But our mind actually senses it much earlier. We just ignore the hints and finally regret for what we have done or not done. Your relationship in the past is over, to predict the future of the new relationship keep your mind clean and clear. Talk to yourself as you know yourself best. Your mind would give you some hints. When in love , our heart takes control. When our partner asks for some help, (something that could lead to bad consequences) our mind would know that it could put us into trouble, but our heart doesn't. I am the best example for this. Wish you all the best. ThirdEye.
  5. I am really not happy with my progress. I am no different from what I was and there is still a big gap. I want to do a few things with devotion but just not getting motivated or something keeps coming in the middle. My time management is really bad. I could be more organised but I am very casual. Here are the things I want to do. 1) Improve my fitness level for which I have to work out. I am not doing this. 2) Improve my mental fitness for which I have to meditate but I am not doing it. 3) I want to improve my skill level and knowledge for which I have to study, read and work hard. I am not doing this. 4) I want to finish off all pending things , but I am not doing this and I keep procastinating. 5) Want to organise myself better. Something stops me from doing this. So here is how it goes. I have a list of things I want to work on , but just do not have the motivation to do so. I know that if I am able to work on these I will make good progress. Can anyone tell me whats going wrong with me. I should know myself better than anyone else. But only a mentor can guide me in the right way. I found this site a good guide for life. F1 please.
  6. Hi, Whatever money I get I am just not managing it well. I have not done any intelligent investment and pay a lot of tax. I claim to be strong in Finance though I am an IT person. But at the outset I am a jack of all and master of none kind of person. How do I learn money management and Financial management. I also want to improve my IT skills at the same time. Please suggest and advice.
  7. Hi, Guess what, never miss a single minute. Its so imp to get a good education with good scores. Think about the future. Look far and wide. Never postpone. These are things I didn't do and I have landed up in a junk. Learn from others mistake. Its better to study well now rather than regret later.
  8. Hi all, I have been writing in the personal section about my problems. I have made score cards for personal, professional and financial growth. While I am working on improving my personal score card, I need to parallely work on my professional score card as well and this inturn will improve my financial score card. I am a software professional. I did my masters in Comp apps after a commerce degree. People at home thought I could well in the IT field as i was showing lot of interest in comp. I have been working for the last 5 years. My job is not any hitech job. Its kind of an IT support role for an Investment bank. Though I have made a good name in the job, I really hate doing this. I am a OK programmer and would like to be a techno functional professional. I want to be technically strong as well as gain the business knowledge on Capital markets(Equity research). How do I really develop my technical and business skills in tandom. I am 28 yrs old. Please feel free to know more about this. Thanks in advance.
  9. Well, I have indicated the memory problems I have. I am trying out certain things in life. I am trying to achieve something. I work for a software firm and my timings are like , for 1 week I go early in the morning (6:00 AM to 2:30 PM) and the other week is (2:00 to 10:30). Its not a great job, I mean , not much of learning, a support kind of a role. I feel i am losing my skillsets. In the month of Jan , I started a software firm , called as ThirdEye Solutions and Technologies. My friend AnanthaShayana is my partner in that and works fine and works full time here. Ofcourse he could much better. I have a good client in US and I have 4 guys working for me. I have the ambition to make this big as I am working, but I lack the drive , I lack the fire power. I waste a lot of time in my office when I can work on my skill sets. I just sit and gossip with friends. Even at home lot of time gets wasted. Yes I do spend time with my firm. If I actually look back at my day which has just passed by I have not used it constructively. Now I really need some time management tips. I need to make sure that every minute counts. This is one part. The second part is something which I already discussed. My memory is not bad when it comes to remembering movie names , events relating to that movie, life events , past events. But I can't remember the commands in computer terminology, can't remember a formula for Earnings per share. Why does this happen? My memory is confusing me. I am very inconsistent. Please help.

  11. Well My Gf(wife) says that I have lot of potential in me. Even I feel that I have , but then why do I forget things and why do I fail in interviews? Why do I feel that I am weak. I hate to make such comments but sometimes I feel like a loser. I have to change a lot of things in myself. More thoughts on this are welcome. I will update the events happening to me as well. Thanks everyone.
  12. Why am I so worried always? You are right. My lack of memory is affecting my concentration and my lack of concentration is again affecting my memory. Its a cycle. I get locked up with some worry or the other. I have tried to ask questions on the purpose of my life, what do I want to achieve ultimately and what should I be working on? I don't know what I am really strong at. Whether it is programming or people management. I am technically not weak in my subjects, but I am mentally weak.
  13. What type of doctor would be helpful in this case? A psychiatrist? As a matter of fact. I feel this has made a dig difference in my life. I am always worried. I am always confused. I am always lazy. As i mentioned earlier, its only a few things I can remember very well. But I tend to forget a lot of important things. That just dents my confidence level. This keeps happening to me time and again. I always wanted to postpone tests or exams. I would have ample time to study , but just didn't do it. Thats discipline. I really wasted valuable time in life. I can't do that anymore. I a 28 now. I don't have a proper sense of time management.
  14. Guys, I have some major problems: 1) Memory : Time and again this has let me down. Right from my school examinations to my job interviews now. I would read stuff and then when I am actually being asked about that I totally forget things or I am not confident of answering. I don't know why, whether it is motivation or whether it is reading with concentration that could have made the difference. I can understand things and learn , but I tend to forget it. The peculiar part is I can remember events , movie scenes , pictures etc very well. I still remember some events that happened in my childhood. Yes I know the theory that some events hold a special place in the mind and it will stay forever. But I really want to improve my memory power when it comes to remembering concepts , fundamentals and the like. When the basics are missing, then how would I grasp indepth knowledge. 2) Poor concentration: My concentration is very poor at times. Especially when I am studying. This could be possibly be one of the reasons why I can't retain things. Why is my Concentration poor I don't know. 3) Don't know what I want to do and I am totally confused I know I have the potential to do things. But how do I really bring that out. I am a software professional, but forget what code I need to write. I hate me in this stage of life. My wife has so much of trust on me that I can do well. But with so many weak areas , howwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww? Can someone help me come out of this dreadful situation.
  15. Wow, so many people to help me. I have really landed in the right place. Ha ha, I wasted all my time when I had to work hard took life very casually. Today I am regretting. I have read some self help books. Yes , I know that I have start loving myself for what I am. I have got a family in this group, I shall keep you posted with my progress. Thanks.
  16. Well , I am just too lazy. I am giving excuses for not changing my job. I am worried about failure. I feel I lack the knowledge. To gain knowledge I need to study , but due to lack of focus and concentration I am unable to do that. My memory is very ordinary. Thank you for replying so quickly.
  17. Hi, I am glad that I found this forum. I am here to find a way to change the life I am currently living. A life which is without any purpose and just for the heck of it. I am here in this world for 28 yrs and have achieved nothing. A simple married life(for the last 1 year), a very ordinary job(because it was an ordinary computer science degree) and a very ordinary life. I am the most lazy guy with no focus, low self esteem and low confidence level. I mentioned that my job is ordinary, and it is really ordinary. People have told me that I can do wonders, but I sometimes wonder if that is the truth. My wife keeps pushing me to go for a better job which gives me better growth opportunities but I am scared of failing in interviews. If I sit to prepare due to my lazy and laid back attitude I am not doing that or doing it very inconsistently. I have wasted a lot of time in the past and wasted a lot of time when I had to work hard because of a stupid girl and her family. I really wish I was younger and more energetic. I have lost the enthusiasm. I try to meditate everyday but I am still unhappy. I try to exercise my body by waking up early in the morning, but thats just for 2 days. I lack time management, I don't prioritise stuff. I have tried to put a checklist to follow but never follow those. Having said all the negative traits about me there are a few positives as well, I never try to hurt anyone and always think twice before I talk. Now can someone guide me to overcome my negative traits and make a more positive person? I believe I can do it and I try to imagine myself in a better position.
