You can't go wrong with jewelry. Clothes and stuff like that is always dangerous because you can screw up the size and insult them. Look online, it's usually cheaper than the mall and there's tons of selection. Any of the big shopping sites are great. If you can't decide, link removed only has one item a day and it's usually nice and reasonably inexpensive... good luck!
