According to a new poll of 'Best Selling Celebrity Perfumes' conducted by company Euromonitor, Elizabeth Taylor's signature fragrance White Diamonds was the global top-selling celebrity fragrance in the year of 2008, hitting 67.2 million dollars.
Before Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, J Lo, Queen Latifah and Sarah Jessica Parker there was the iconic Elizabeth Taylor. Before perfumes created by stars became all the rage, Elisabeth Taylor came up with her White Diamonds in 1991 in collaboration with Elizabeth Arden and since that time the signature scent (retailed at $55), which the longtime actress calls "the jewel in the crown," as well as Passion and Black Pearls, have gone on to make exactly $200 million in sales annually. The scent's 15th anniversary was celebrated in 2006.
The poll also found that White Diamonds perfume is followed by tennis player Gabriela Sabatini's eponymous fragrance and hip-hop mogul Sean John Combs, better known as Diddy made to the second position as well with his perfume named 'Unforgivable.' Diddy seems to be continuing that lucky streak of his since his latest scent, I Am King, sold out in 16 minutes on US online shopping site HSN in December, 2009. Interestingly, 6 out of the 8 fragrances listed by Euromonitor correspond with the researchers' US list released in late December.
Céline Dion's self-named perfume and Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker take up the next spots, they were placed third and fourth respectively. Jennifer Lopez' Glow by J-Lo took the position number seven. Lopez has recently announced a second follow-up to Glow for February, 2010, saying that after her Glow, the popular fragrance will be coming back as a fruity-floral version called Blue Glow. Sarah Jessica Parker is also set to release her new scent this year: prior to the premier of her Sex and the City movie sequel in May, SJP NYC will be launched the upcoming February. The final two positions of Euromonitor's list of the top ten bestselling celebrity perfumes in 2008 went to Curious by Britney Spears, who has just launched her Circus Fantasy scent, and another Jennifer Lopez scent named Still.
Beauty giant Coty stands behind the majority of these best- and top-selling fragrances, including Céline Dion, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lopez, but the most popular fragrance of all time launched by a celebrity - Elisabeth Taylor's White Diamonds - is the work of Elizabeth Arden.
Among the biggest and most expected celebrity perfume releases scheduled for the year 2010 are the first perfumes by Eva Longoria, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Kanye West, and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.
