Abdnormal PAP test

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I got a pap test done in september 2018. The result came as abnormal. I got another one done in february. The result came as abnormal as well and they came after only 5 days while the nurse told me that would take 2 months to get the results. I'm not sure exactly how abdnormal they were. She said there were lesions.

I just got my appointment to see a specialist now. It's next week. I'm feeling stressed and unsure of what to expect. When we google things online, all you see is cervical cancer and it's pretty worrying... i'm only 23 years old.

I just had one sexual partner in my whole life and we've been together for 3 years. So, that's not like if i was jumping on everything that moves.

Anyone ever got bad results from a pap test and it was nothing to worry about ?

I have had abnormal smears, in my case it was abnormal cells (precancerous) and I had to have laser surgery to deal with it. I was in my early 20's. Once they did the laser I had no further issues.

I would avoid googling possibilities and advocate for getting your actual results. And the nurse shouldn't be communicating half a$$ed results to you or making guesses as to how long things will take. If you don't get anywhere with that Dr. go see another one. You definitely do want to tackle this sooner rather than later. Have you been tested for other STD's?

I've had a LEAP procedure done when I was about 29 or so to remove precancerous cells. My HPV cleared up a few years later, and zero issues. I've gone to have two healthy kids, and am now 40.

Some HPV can be dormant - and you could honestly get it anywhere. There is no way to test on men, so he probably gave it to you, but he could have also gotten it as a teen for plain ol' skin to skin contact. HPV is so common that nearly all men and women get it at some point in their lives.

But I would definitely recommend taking vitamin A & C!

My next appointment will be with a doctor. My last two tests were done by a nurse as it is pretty difficult to get appointments here. The only reason i got one done in september is because i needed to renew my birth control prescription and she asked me if I wanted a test done. It was the first time I had one. When my result of february came back as abdnormal, they transferred my case to a real doctor that is specialised in that field.

I haven't been tested for STD yet.

Yes see a doctor and do not stand for incompetence or lassitude such as this exhibited by this nurse. When something is abnormal a prompt and appropriate follow up is the standard of care. Why weren't biopsies and STD testing done at the first visit or directly after "abnormal results" were found? Do not be this passive about your health care.

The way it works here and the way it seems to work everywhere is that, when you are below 25 years old, if a first test comes as abnormal, they do another test 6 months after. There is apparantly no point doing a biopsy or getting worried after a first abnormal test as the body of young adults tends to change very quick and those bad results can disappear by themselves. Now that my second test is bad, they will make me see a doctor and do probably a more in depth checkup.

She did not test me for STD as she questionned me about my sexual history and since I have been with the same man for more than 3 years, he was my first sexual partner, and he never has been diagnosed with any STD, then a test would not be necessary.
