Dealing with a stalker

To make a long story short, my boyfriends parents have a band and their drummer has always been a little crazy. He has a criminal background, and they ended up kicking him out of the band. Right after that he took down the website he made for the band and hacked into their Facebook accounts. He uses multiple spoof numbers to harass. It started with him harassing my boyfriends parents with constant calls and pornographic texts, and it moved on to me and my bf. this has been happening for over a month now. He uses different IP addresses to make it harder to trace him down. We have made over 12 police reports and installed cameras outside the house because we are scared. Somehow he got my email address and sent me an email saying said all of this will be pinned on you and Connor (my boyfriend). Now the detective called and he only wants a statement from me. I am scared the drummer changed his IP to mine and is going to have all of this thrown on me. I just don’t understand why he would only want a statement from me and nobody else when this has been happening to everyone. This whole thing is so stressful

He has a criminal background,

We have made over 12 police reports

Document everything. You have the email he sent, show that to the detective. The fact there are 12 police reports on this guy should tell him something. Change your email address and phone number in the meantime.

Cooperate with law enforcement. File a restraining order. Use threats, emails etc as evidence. The detective wants a statement because that's his job. You and your bf need to do a bit more to protect yourselves. Hopefully you've both blocked deleted him and all his people from All messaging apps and All social media and asked friends/family to do the same..

Why haven't you or your bf filed a restraining order? Is your bf still friends with him? Did they do drugs together in the past?

Stop using easy to follow names/passwords and references in public forums. (e.g. Jade619, Connor.)

Unlike TV portrayals, most hacking is simple in nature.

Bad guys garner information months/years BEFORE an attack.

A simple snapshot of a person's work space, when zoomed in, almost always offers up passwords.

Watching/listening as their victim types their easy to recreate, finger-stokes yields the same.

With one or two passwords in hand, it's usually easy to guess all the rest. (jad619, Connor would be in his collection. )

Next he would install a simple, free keylogger on your devices.

It would be put in an "exclude from scan" area that came default with the anti-spy software or one he creates.

The keylogger would report to him daily, or he could use a secret Admin account he created to harvest the new passwords.

This would make password size, complexity a frequency of change meaningless.

Remove any "exclude from scan" areas in your anti-spy software.

Download the free Spy-bot program and run scan. https://www.safer-networking.org/

My favorite, buy a new device, or wipe, format and reinstall operating system. Transfer ONLY NEEDED files to the new system. No programs!

PS, IP address's are like your mailboxes. Just knowing one's IP address is just like knowing a real mailbox. It's what happens in the house that makes you safe.

Oh also, on older machines, they come in physical form such as small bugs that go between the keyboard and device.

Entire keyboards can also be keyloggers.

They are normally used in the early days of the hack.

Once in, they create accounts and in install software keyloggers. (Small Business/schools are famous for using the main Admin password outside the IT room.)

Document everything and keep evidence of everything he does. He has police records, so the police will understand this is all him. Everyone involved needs to change passwords regularly and attach the accounts to their mobile telephones so that every new login must be confirmed and notified to their cellphones. Also everyone needs to check what IPs/browsers are connected to the accounts and disconnect everything frequently and change passwords. Passwords should be difficult to guess, I advise passowords not to have actual words like exist (mine are all made up words) and not to have obvious things like names of pets and aniversary dates.

If it's necessary everyone should try to get a restraining order or something. Also block and delete him on everything and everyone should do the same.
