Southeast Asia travel

Anyone ever travel southwest Asia? Very cheap. Only expensive thing is plane ticket there. Can easily fly into a major airport like Singapore or Manila and then take cheap local flights all over the region to places like Thailand and Indonesia. Thailand and Philippines are very cheap. Most of the countries over there are very cheap. I’m talking 20.00 a night for a nice beach area hotel or resort. Singapore is very expensive but a very awesome tiny little country.

If you think traveling to the other side of the world is too crazy and expensive, your wrong. Get out of your comfort zone. Life’s too short. There’s so much to see.

Me and my old lady are heading back to the Philippines this upcoming summer and I was wondering if anyone has any low key spots or their favorite Southeast Asia island or something to visit that they could let me know about. We looking to visit somewhere new this summer. Any suggestions? We haven’t been to Bali yet, nor Vietnam or Malaysia.

Bali is too commercialised, although it is still nice. Lombok and the Gillies nearby Bali are better. It is quiet at the mo because of the volcano. There are some amazing places on the island of Java, in Indonesia.

I can recommend many places in Malaysia. I worked on Langkawi island during most of 2015 and loved it. I ran a small Air BnB resort.

Thailand is nice, but is overrun by tourists. The southern islands are filled with stupid young westerners drunk out of their brains thinking they are awesome while puking all over themselves.

The mountains in northern Thailand are beautiful.

Myanmar is a must see. Quiet and beautiful.

Vietnam was amazing, one of my favourite journeys for a month on a motorbike riding around the countryside.

Bali is the most beautiful place on the planet - stayed in Ubud, and toured northern parts of the island.

I do not do beach. I would recommend Laos, Burma, Sri Lanka, Cambodia. Penang and Malaaca in Malaysia are wonderful. Nepal is amazing!!!!! Don't know condition after earthquake. Have always wanted to visit Borobudur in Indonesia.

I don't care for Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. There isn't much of anything to do.

Be very careful in Malaysia. Keep money and phone hidden. When walking down the street, keep your bag on the inside - a lot of snatching from motorbikes.

Personally, I loved Singapore and Kuala Lumpur!! I like cities and beaches though. It really depends. I enjoyed Thailand as well, especially Krabi. I haven't been all over SE Asia, but I really enjoyed it overall. If you're looking for a cheap trip, don't spend more than a day or two in Singapore.
