Not " you " specific but a general you.
Victoria, with all due respect to you, everyone in the UK and all over the world, and the doctors who treat them, there are good and bad doctors everywhere.

Personally, I live in the US and DON'T trust doctors here .... one in particular almost killed me by mis-diagnosing me and prescribing the wrong meds!

Could have filed a malpractice lawsuit for that one but decided wasn't worth it.

Our healthcare system is seriously flawed to say the least.

That said, I am sure there are good doctors here too, I just haven't encountered any.

Re the OP's situation, regardless of where she lives, any doctor(s) who refuses to give a blood test, tells her she has "a" fibroid or "something" .... refers her to a urologist when clearly her condition warranted she see a gyn, which took them over a MONTH to realize, at which point they inform her it is actually her ovary, is seriously incompetent imho.

Like in the US, I have no doubt there are some good, even great doctors in UK too, but the doctors who treated her in *this* situation aren't part of that group.

Again jmo based on everything OP has posted to date.

Good luck OP, and please keep us posted!

Fingers crossed it is nothing serious and you feel better soon!

I agree the doctors were too slow.

Allthough she might have more than one condition. She may have to go to the urologist after all once she's finished with the gynecologist.

She might have two conditions at the same time since she has told us that she has already been diagnosed with cystitis.

Good luck hope you keep us informed!

Misdiagnosis ,I will agree is pretty common. A lot depends on the skill and experience of the doctor.

Hey! Um yeah I'm in the U.K. and it is terrible they didn't refer me to a gynecologist earlier. I'm seeing one in a couple days now though, and as I said I'm pretty certain cancers are detected by a blood test and I have had many before my scan and they came back fine.

Also they can tell whether it's a fibroid or not from the scan alone so if I'm told it's a fibroid by the only person who has seen the scan...I'm fairly certain that's what it is. And the gynecologist has the scan now and if they thought it was something really serious they would get me in pronto.

Could still affect my fertility though sure. Which is worrying yes.

Anyway, I also agree there's a chance I'll end up at the urologist again too.

I'll keep you posted on what happens though. If I can share this info and save someone all the hassle I've been though that would be good at least.

Yes I agree, they would let you know pronto if it was something more serious, (or one would hope they would).

And since seeing the scan, they suspect it's only a fibroid or fibroids that is fabulous and great news!!

It's just that you said earlier they were saying it was now your ovary and that scared me a bit.

In any event, good luck and keep us posted.

Just know that one fibroid isn't a massive issue . They can be removed . And depending upon where they are it might not be a big issue for healing . I refused surgical removal of mine because if I got pregnant it could've caused a uterine rupture. Keep in mind though I had very many fibroids and they were very big . Now I am post menopausal and haven't had a period in three years and they called me no problems at all .

They say it's a cyst. I'm getting a blood test tomorrow and an MRI soon. The doctors were so , I wanted to talk about my constant cystitis pain but they just didn't care and said it wasn't connected. Then I almost fainted and got put in a wheelchair and cried

    It's been a sad day.

I called my GP and she said she thought it was connected to my bladder problems though and to have the tests before we decide what to do next.

I imagine I'll need it removed.

Try to remain calm, composed and most of all accurate about your symptoms. Hysteria won't help you heal and won't help the doctors help you if you can't describe symptoms accurately. OMG I'm dying! is not helping you or helping the doctors take an accurate history of your symptoms and problems. Maybe a referral to a therapist to help with any anxiety surrounding this would help.

Cysts are not always cancer. Have you heard of polycystic ovaries? Not cancer. Needs medication ,exercise and dietary change but not cancer.

Wiseman...dude. I have a condition where I faint when I get really worried, I've always had it. It's not something I choose to do or enjoy. It just happens, and I can control it enough to not faint but I know i have to sit with my head towards the ground to do it, so that's what I did and when I explained this to the nurse she wheeled me off. I started crying involuntarily as well. It was probably just upsetting going through the shock of the appointment then almost fainting. I haven't almost fainted in a good many years too.
