Ladies can you tell when a guy is depressed?

I tried to talk to some women recently. I just got looked at weird and that. Can you tell when a guy is heartbroken or depressed?

I think I would be able to tell - I have a knack of reading people very well and it has rarely failed me. It all comes across in the body language and even when people try to "cover up" by pretending that all is well, it still shows in their general demeanor and they give off a vibe which (to me) is just obvious. Some people can tell, some can't and some can only guess.

I try to hide it but I definitely think most can tell
