You're not owned. You get the feeling pushed far off your radar by getting involved in activities and interests and in being more focused outwards -being a good listener to others for example and not talking about him or what happened. The feelings might still be there but they'll be off your radar, subtle, because you'll be busy living and making a productive life. I'd also recommend volunteer work working with people one on one.
