i'm looking forward to a trip to london except that i've been there a few times already.

been on the wheel, wax works etc most of the tourist things so any one out there got any fun (inexpensive ah.. and legal

quite fancy a show les miserables has been going on forever so must? be good, any one seen it?

i think i will be kept busy (training event) durning the day so mostly evening/night time suggestions needed.

if the people i am with turn out not to be interested in outings would you feel safe/recommend the night time london tour bus if i go alone.

i am going with a group of strangers on a training event and if they dont want to go out or only want to shop i would rather go out alone if it is safe then stay in a hotel bored. we are staying in central london. early february.

thanks.

I THINK there's some dungeons in London which you can visit.

I know there are in Scotland, but I'm just a tad unsure about London, I can't

remember. But if there are, you should definitely visit those!

Sure it's safe...Few dare to commit crimes in London because they're

so fanatical about their stupid security cameras. London is the most watched

city in the world I believe, in terms of security cameras. So anyone doing

anything, isn't going to get far... Crime rates dropped immensly once they

installed this, I think it was like 40% percent or something.. Can't remember.

London is totally safe -- well, the touristy/downtown areas. Obviously if you wander off into obvious ghettos you're asking for trouble, but if you stick to the busy areas you'll be cool. It's just like any other major city in that sense.

And CSLX9 makes a fair point that our obsession with CCTV has put some people off of violent crime, but it does still happen now and again (there have been instances on the news of gangs of kids attacking people openly on camera). Although I've lived here my whole life and gone all over the city at night by myself and never had any trouble whatsoever. The tour bus will be 100% safe at night. The regular transit buses and the tube can supposedly be trouble at night, so be vigilant if you use those, but again I've never seen or experienced anything bad in all the hundreds of times I've used them in the middle of the night!

Hmm as for things to do at night that aren't too touristy... ummm.... well my parents went to Les Miserables and they loved it! We pretty much just go to pubs if I'm honest, I can't think of anything else to suggest!!

CSLX9 thank goodness for cctv, i'm all in favour of it. yes, if i go out alone i am going to try my best to stay in busy areas. wish i had a better sense of direction. i always wonder if my dsylexic tendencies are a factor in my absolute no understanding of direction. the london dungeons i have seen advertised seem to be fair ground rides, i know there are also some in the Tower of London, imagine if i got lost in there!

theartofruin i checked and there are tickets available for Les Mis while i am in town so i think that will be a definate visit, the therate looks amazing. trying to get in touch with the people whose group i will be in to see if there are any evening events planned. i've never been on the tour bus at night so it's good to know that's safe, i'll just try to be very carefull if i do the 'hop on hop off' thing.

fIIsion i had forgotton about all the free events magazines. now that you mention it i remember them being handed out at tube stations. that will be very handy.

thanks everyone for your suggestions i'm looking forward to my trip

Central London is certainly quite safe after hours in the well-lit and busy hours; I wouldn't worry at all. The night time bus tour is also perfectly safe, as indeed are ordinary night buses and evening underground (metro) services etc..

I've seen Les Mis in London, and it was very good if you like that sort of thing; well worth seeing. There are also a LOT of shows/plays/musicals/cabaret/comedy etc. on in the West End (greater variety than Broadway, in fact), so there's never a shortage of things to do in that regard. Also some impressive cinemas, a bunch of world-class concert halls (filled with world-class musicians), and if nothing else, the late night Haagen Daaz in Leicester Square. So no reason not to find something to do in the evening in London.

hi karvala

les mis is my choice if none of my group want to socialise, i think i would be alright at this show alone. if in a group this -

Barbershopera Apocalypse No! - would be my first choice. four horsemen summoned but a misunderstanding leads to them being joined by sweet Beth instead of Death! sounds my type of humour. followed by a vist to Haagen Daaz in Leicester Square sounds like an ideal evening. good suggestion.

buddha55 is so-ho a safe place for a woman alone in the evening? it's a few years since i was there and only in the day time. thank you for replying.
