You want to marry me, but you don't want to date me?

I'm starting to get irritated with the notion that men want to "marry" me, but none want to date or be in a "relationship" with me (right now). What is this nonsense!??

Boy, have I heard that one enough times. "You're the kind of guy girls want to marry, not date". Umm...ok, then how do you get to the marriage part? Arrange it? In that case, I'm waiting for a goat to appear at my front door...

A weird way of saying you're too good for them...in the sense that they would feel bad using you or screwing you over since they just want to have fun and play the field.

You're not missing out on much with these guys. And there will be plenty of guys that recognize your wife material for *gasp* amazing girlfriend material.

lol I'm not familiar with that one, are you from a culture with a lot of arranged marriages or something?

I think Balbina's got the right idea. I first heard that line in high school, then in college a few more times. It's almost like they're saying "I want to party, you seem to be the type to settle down. We're not compatible like that".

I wouldn't give it much thought. People don't even take marriage seriously anymore.

I can relate. I constantly hear my female friends complain to their boyfriend that they wish they were more like me. I'm thinking, "Hello! Do you know who is more like me? Me!"... Bullocks!

See, but i'm not trying to get married anytime soon. So does that mean in this dating thing i'm doomed? Maybe in 5-7 years i'll be ready, but i am one of those career first, marriage and kids later type-o-woman.

Yeah this is confusing to me. This doesn't make sense.

means they aren't ready to settle down right now. they want a party girl, and you are the kind of woman they would bring home to mom. don't worry. in 5-7 years, guys will be sick of the party girls, and they'll be looking for someone to marry.

I think that it is another way to dismiss a person, it can have some meaning but the bottom line is that person is looking for something that they dont believe that you have.

lol...my ex made a similar statement, he wanted me to promise him in 3 yrs we'd get married, but in the mean time he didn't want to committ or stop spreading his seed....ugh...they make me sick.

These men aren't ready to settle down with a 'good girl' who has a good head on her shoulders & knows what she's doing with her life. They just want a temporary chick to get drunk with, go out with, & have no obligations.

Honestly, I can be the girl that parties, but also the girl you can take home to mom. I don't see why many guys don't realize that. I guess it's because I come off as a bit reserved/timid at first, so they assume I'm plannin on poppin out a baby in 9 months lol

If you're a bit reserved or too serious on dates, lighten up a little, & that may change things.
