bothofus
Does anyone know how to do-it-yourself when it comes to separating or divorcing? Is there a good website to order forms or something? I live in Michigan. Thanks. Link to comment
avman
You might try this site: Lots of good information there. Link to comment
WildChild
You may want to try going to your local county court administrator's office. Here where I live they have the forms right there at their front desk. It may seem like a lot to fill out, but most of it may not pertain to you. Link to comment
PocoDiablo
I paid a lawyer $300 in Colorado to do my divorce. A lot easier, IMO. Link to comment

avman
Yep all good ideas. These all assume that your divorce is uncontested. If it IS contested then it's a totally different story. In that case I'd say you really need to talk to an attorney and it will definitely cost you more than $300. But we all hope it's uncontested for your sake. Link to comment
novaseeker
Yeah if you can agree and avoid the lawyers all the better. Link to comment
Shadows Light
Try to avoid lawyers at all costs... I alone am 15K in the hole over my divorce... ugggghhhhh Link to comment
WildChild
Although I work for an attorney, I would stay away from an attorney if the divorce is going to be amicable. Many attorneys will draft the papers for people and not represent either party if the divorce is a clean cut and amicable split. You don't want to land yourself in a position where you start out amicable and then hire an attorney to represent you and then they start pushing issues that are already agreed upon. However, if the divorce is going to be messy it is important to have an attorney to draft motions, appear in court, and protect your interest etc.... Link to comment
