I need help URGENTLY!!!!

Ok I leave for work soon, So please help me out before I go. There is a guy who I've had a thing for for a while (I posted about things changing between us). Anyways my best friend has asked me to go into town with her Fri night and she is inviting a guy that she likes, I was wondering if this would be the perfect opportunity to invite him along.

I was just going to say something along the lines of my friend is going in to town with a guy on fri night and she wants me to go to. But I don't want to feel like the third wheel and I was wondering if your not doing anything would you like to come along?.

Is this ok or should I not even ask. Cause this way I'm not exactly asking him on a date just asking him to hang out with me for the night. And it will give us a chance to get to know each other out side of work.

Yep that was what I was thinking just ask him to hang out and have some fun with me as friends. I guess I'm a little scared I'll stuff it up or he says no.
