What Should I Do When I'm Feeling Lost?

We all feel lost sometimes, unable to process our thoughts and situations clearly, not knowing what to do or which direction to take. It can happen at any stage of life, too, whether you're in college, starting a new job, launching into a new relationship, dealing with a difficult life change, or just coming to terms with a new stage of adulthood. And it's so easy to sink into a deep sense of helplessness and despair when that happens.

Perhaps you've tried talking to your friends and family but still feel like you can't get clarity. It's likely because the emotional weight of being in a place of not knowing can be overwhelming. It's ok to feel lost and confused, but it's also important to take action to move yourself forward.

When you're lost, the best thing you can do is to write out everything that's going on inside your head and heart. This could mean anything from simply jotting down notes to creating a full-blown journal. But the key is to really express your inner dialogue on paper. Your words can help bring clarity, put things in perspective, and create an environment in which you can explore what the next step should be.

The next step can be hard to determine on your own, so it's important to seek advice from those who you trust and respect – whether that's a parent, a friend, a teacher, a mentor, or a therapist. Oftentimes simply having someone to listen to your thoughts and offer a fresh perspective can be enough to give you the insight you need to figure out your next steps.

If that's not enough, there are plenty of online resources or books that offer advice on handling tough situations. Whether it's a professional career related decision, a relationship issue, or a spiritual crisis, these services or books can serve as guides to help you figure out how to make the best decisions for yourself.

It's important to remember that being lost on the path of life doesn't mean you're on the wrong path. In fact, being lost often leads to unexpected discoveries and can put you in a better place than you were before. Embrace the uncertainty and use it to explore possibilities you hadn't previously considered. By simply trusting yourself to take the journey, you can find your way out of being lost and onto a path of success.
