For many years humans were searching for a miracle elixir of youth that would help them look younger and live longer healthier lives. Recently 60 minutes ran an update on the numerous benefits of Resveratrol, the substance that appears to slow down the process of aging.

Resveratrol is the nutrient that slows down aging process and helps individuals to live a healthy life. The nutrient is found in the skin of red grapes, berries and peanuts, and is also an ingredient in red wine. Resveratrol is believed to carry antiviral, neuro-protective, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. The supplement claims to lower levels of cholesterol, to prevent heart-related issues, decrease fat cells, and increase life expectancy.

Resveratrol is also known to work well for and even stop Diabetes Type II and fight cancer at different stages, starting at the initiation of a tumor, its promotion and progression, which account for the drug's chemo-preventive mechanism. If taken in low doses, the drug can protect against the cardiac problems by regulating the work of vascular cells, minimizing the LDL oxidation, suppressing platelet aggregation, and diminishing myocardial damage during ischemia-reperfusion.

Studies have demonstrated that individuals who have a large amount of Resveratrol in their systems are more likely to maintain their youthful looks, as well as get rid of wrinkles, lines and other signs of aging. Resveratrol has been proved to slow down the process of aging and the nutrient also appears to be a powerful anti-oxidant that will fight and protect not only against free radical damage to cells and tissues, but also from the exposure to pollution, toxins and ultraviolet radiation.

For the first time, Resveratrol was discovered in the 1940's, but has been gaining in popularity after the scientists from Harvard have released the impressive results of their 2006 study. In the experiment, the nutrient was given to overweight mice. As a result, not only did these mice live longer, but their life was healthier as well.

Also, Resveratrol is said to be the substance that gave rise to the "French Paradox". The paradox is about a logical solution to the fact that French people eat a diet that consists completely of saturated fat, and despite this, are less likely to develop atherosclerotic heart diseases. The best possible answer to this paradox could be the Resveratrol that is found in the red wine, which is abundantly consumed by the French, and makes them masters at retaining the youthfulness.

However, while the nutrient is found in red wine, people would need to drink 100 glasses per day in order to get the desired effects. Since this has the tendency to lead to greater health problems, such as liver disease and dementia, way more serious that just he lines and wrinkles, scientists have recently been able to deliver the substance in the form of a pill for the consumers.
