A bit worried...

Hi all...

I have been reading a lot of these posts here, but none of them have answers to my questions..

I have been on the pill for nearly eight months now. More recently, I have forgotten to take my pill twice, but end up taking them a few hours later than my scheduled time.

Over these last couple of days, I have been eating a lot more food, even though I'm not hungry, and I seem to be producing about twice as much "lady juice" (LOL - mental blank!) than usual... I have also been rather nauseated as well on occasion. Another symptom is my breasts are more tender than they usually are.

I am getting a bit concerned - is it possible that I could be pregnant? Any suggestions are very welcome..

Its always possible. Though not too likely in this case. Taking your pill a few hours late isn't likely to make a huge difference in its effectiveness. Now if you miss a whole day thats a different story.

I'd wait and see if you miss your period before getting too worried about whether you might be pregnant. There are too many other factors that could cause you to eat more and produce more lubrication than usual.

don't worry

Actually, one of the ways the pill works is by producing more mucus. This makes it more difficult for the sperm to reach the egg. I took the pill at one point and yeah it just made me more mucusy overall (I blew my nose all the time, had to take decongestants all the time, etc.). You're eating because the pill may affect your blood sugar levels, causing them to drop. When that happens, you get hungry, esp for sugary or carb rich foods. When I was on the pill, I could not remember what it felt like to be full; I was eating constantly. I gained 15lbs! So yeah, most likely you are not pregnant. Of course if you do miss the pill for 24 hours and have unprotected sex, you could become pregnant. But missing a few hours here or there will not kill you. I was nauseous when I first started taking the pill; this is actually quite common. My suggestion is to take it right before bedtime so you are sleeping during the time you would otherwise feel nauseous. It just seems like you are feeling the side effects. Whenever you take something that affects your hormones, your body will need some time adjusting.

Hope that helps!

Not likely

First and foremost, have you been sexually active? Did you use protection? While taking the pill as prescribed, you're almost guranteed not to be pregnant. Taking your pills hours later shouldn't make a difference. I've been on the pill for years, and never got pregnant from being hours late. Skipped pills is a different story.
Pregnancy symptoms can be confusing. Most of the same early pregnancy symptoms like breast tenderness, sleepiness, and hunger, can be attributed to other things like stress or hormonal changes. If you're late for your peroid, take a test...and you'll know for sure. But I doubt that you're pregnant. Try to relax also, because if you stress too much off it, you can cause your period to be late which will just cause you more anguish. Take Care.

I have been sexually active.... and have been on the pill for about eight months.

The reason I am worried, is because I took one of my pills about 12 hours after the time I am supposed to take it..

And I have been having the systems that you described - like I am eating for two people, my breasts are sore and I am always tired. I took a pregnancy test the other day and it came up with nothing..

I don't know what to think - does this always happen when you are on the pill??

Have you missed a period yet? If you haven't then those pregnancy tests are not accurate.

Actually, I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my doctor told me that I can safely skip the red section on my pill, which means that I don't have to have my period at all. As long as I let my period run every couple of months I should be fine, apparently.

Perhaps the fact that I haven't been having my period has tricked my body into thinking that I am pregnant???

Well, even birth control pills "trick your body" into thinking you are already pregnant - which is why you don't ovulate, build up much lining, etc. So, if you are skipping periods with them, you are just getting more hormones than usual, therefore the side effects of the pills might be more prominent.

Pregnancy tests start becoming most accurate two weeks after fertilization - for most women this would be at their first missed period. But, since every woman is different, hormones might still not be strong enough to give a positive indication.
