Mind over matter?

- Failing to plan is planning to fail.
- Success is born in a mind void of failure
- Fear is our greatest enemy

So much has been said in regards to this, what am I talking about? Mind over matter. The power of our mind to control the outcome of our lives. Understand this, our minds cannot visualize a negative. What I mean by that is that our minds can only see something happen.

Imagine this, you are up to bat at the big game, 2 outs, bottom of the 9th (you know the drill). Now you have 2 options as you stand before the plate. You can visualise success "I'm going to hit a home run" or dwell on the negative "I will not strike out".

I ask you this, try and picture in you mind "not striking out"… You cannot, all you can visualize is striking out or hitting a home run. You cannot see something not-happen, understand? So if you say to yourself "I will not strike out" your mind will visualise "I will strike out".

Acknowledging this simple concept and taking a positive (look at the silver lining) approach will change your perspective on your life. You will be amazed at the changes it can bring in your life.

Why am I posting this? I just simply wanted to reiterate an important concept, which is far to often swept under the rug as psycho babble. People positive self talk really works. Give it a shot

Comments, questions, suggestions are always appreciated.

I agree entirely with the concept of mind over matter. It takes some strength, but it is so worth the effort.

Nothing is ever as hopeless as you make it seem. The more you concentrate on the negatives, the more it will drive you insane. And at the end of the day, they're all hypotheticals - you don't know how the future will unfold.

Just keep that positive self talk up!

Hello Crookster_Man,

Great to see you back here. I haven't seen you for a while and I hope that you're doing well. I would like to go into detail with the part: "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". I really believe in that concept.

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail
This is certainly true. Planning things ahead forces you to think about consequences and needs. You will start to think about: "What does it take to succeed?" and "What do I need to succeed?". It also enables you to take certain risks into account or actually avoid them.

A little example: you ask a girl out for a date on a Monday to a restaurant. Suppose you don't plan your date and fail to make a reservation, you might find out on the date itself that the restaurant is closed on a Monday. There you are: being with your date and finding this. Not quite an impressive impression, eh?

I love planning ahead and having things organized. That's just silly me, though.

Thanks for that post. I used to be really good at positive self talk and it got me pretty far, but it seems that during the last few years I have gotten away from it a bit. Reading your post reiterated this for me and I will be making a conscious effort to do this more often.

Thanks again!

Hi Crookster_Man

I agree that positive self talk is vital in allowing us to achieve our goals.

For example, if I say 'Don't read the previous sentence', the very fact that it has been mentioned has drawn your attention to it and I bet that your eyes wandered over the previous sentence.

Similarly, telling yourself, for example, that 'I must not fail this exam' will draw attention to failure and set your self conscious thinking about failure which will reduce confidence in passing the exam.

If however, you tell yourself that 'I will pass this exam' sets the mind thinking about success and boosts confidence. Of course it won't guarantee that you will pass, that is due to hard work, but it will increase chances of succeeding.

Stating postiive affirmations every morning is a great way to make you feel good about yourself and help you make the most of your life. It also helps you decide what you want from life.
