Sciatica? Bulging Disc? Shooting pain in right butt cheek/thigh

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am a very active individual, activity including yoga 4-5x/week & running.

This morning I woke up with slight lower back pain and then when I went to reach down to touch my toes (stretching), there was a shooting pain in my right buttcheck/side of the buttcheek. It did not radiate down my leg though, as a sciatica pain would, however the pain is now excrutiating when I am sitting.

I was wondering if anyone has had a pain like this, and what kind of doctor I should see if the pain doesn't diminish in the next 24 hours?

have that. was diagnosed with sciatica but they had to do an xray to find out. hurts like a B when it flares but im lucky i dont get it too often.

don't do your own internet search based on the symptoms you feel. Even Doctors have their own doctors such as psychologists have their own. removes the personal bias.

Hope it works well with you.

Have a good day.

first thing I thought of when I read the description. It's quite common. I can't for the life of me remember how to correct it.

You really can't. I've had it for years - only on one side. Yipee. lol. You can actually feel the knot. When it really flares up, everything around it joins in and spasms as well.

Treatment ranges from rest/motrin to cortisteroid to surgery. I've considered the surgery a few times, but something about having my ass cut into concerns me a bit. So, I manage to it. Or, I go see my ART (active release) Chiro.

It could be the beginnings of a disc protrusion as well, so definitely see a specialist: Doctor, physio, chiropractor, etc. It's possible for sciatica to NOT radiate down further than the hip, so it's best to rule everything out.

i have a herniate disc in my lower back and it makes childbirth look like a walk the park. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Hey folks! thanks for the reply! i was lucky to get a doctor appointment very quickly and it's a bulging disc tapping on the sciatica nerve.

Looks like i'm on bed rest for a few days.

Definitely see a physio or chiropractor as well if you. If you're disc goes, it will seriously hurt. Loss of movement, extreme pain, time of work, etc. And it is VERY hard to treat.

Prevention is the best cure. Core exercises are key. But get some good opinions on it.

Good luck.

I have a disc protrusion as well, 3mm. Some days the pain is unbearable, that is when I have to visit the ER for some heavy duty narcotics. Other days, I feel nothing. Rest is key and I fell in love with my heating pad.

Be careful with your movements, even though you might feel better, one wrong step or movement can land you right back in excruciating pain.

A herniated disc can develop due to several reasons, though the most common one is with age. The bones in the body typically becomes brittle as we get older, making it susceptible to fractures, cracks, and ruptures.Another prevalent reason for a herniated disc is degenerative disc disease, which can also cause back pain. Supporting a massive amount of weight can also bring about disc herniation, like in the case of weight-lifting, obesit. Two common types of exercises include walking and yoga. If you're looking to do yoga, look for teachers who have some training with yoga for back pain. Generally a last resort. The pain is usually extremely debilitating. Surgery always has risks attached to it. It`s rare to do surgery for bulging disc treatment.
