First, assess your current lifestyle and what needs to change.

Are you active? Do you overeat? Do you skip meals? Do you eat too much at each meal? Do you consume a lot of pop or junk food?

It's more about what you don't do.

I don't know much about training for other people, but as a basic rule of thumb, these two things should help a lot with weight loss and overall health:

1. Eat lots of small meals throughout the day instead of 2 or 3 big meals. This will speed up your metabolism.

2. Cardio, cardio, cardio.

The best way: Get dumped by someone you truly care about

The right way: Workout every other day and run every day, eat healthier and don't smoke/drink.

Not every day, especially if she is not a runner. Contrary to popular opinion, the most efficient workout (to lose weight) is the one you can maintain while carrying out a normal conversation.

It's a bit difficult to answer, because different things may work for different people, but in terms of diet, this is basically what i've tried to do:
1 - focus on fiber-rich foods, to keep you feeling full for longer periods of time (and it's always good to get enough fiber in general) - Oatmeal, whole grain rice, also vegetables/fruits, etc.
2 - I try to eliminate junk foods in general, but i'll have one meal each week where i can eat whatever i like (it prevents me from going too crazy lol)
3 - eliminate any sugary drinks & sodas; I drink mostly water, and sometimes herbal teas. Some fruit juices as well (with no added sugar).
These are the main things that i've tried to do, but when it comes to exercising, i still have to work on that .

Calorie counting is something worth trying. First you calculate how many calories you burn by just living, then you factor in your activity level, then simply eat less calories than what you burn (not too much less) and/or increase your exercise to create that calorie deficit and voila. It means you don't have to eliminate any particular foods if you don't want as long as it fits into your calorie 'budget' for the day, although because a lot of healthier foods happen to be lower in calories you tend to eat much better anyway.
You can just google 'calculate BMR' or anything to do with calorie counting to get more info..I'm losing weight doing it.
