Dog has to have surgery tomorrow!

Just found out our dog has to have surgery tomorrow because he has something in his stomach. They can't tell if it's a foreign object or a mass from the xrays.

Had to leave him at the vet for the night cuz they want to put him on an iv drip. That totally sucked, he never stays anywhere else without us and he's our baby. The only one we have left (we had to put our other dog done last month because of age and arthritis).

I'll just feel sick. Like I want to run there and sleep in the pen with him for the night. I know how crazy that must sound. He's a dog and he'll be fine there I'm sure. But I'm so worried.

And what if it is a mass. What if they can't remove it or it's cancer and it's spread. He showed no signs of being sick until a couple days ago.

I can't believe this is happening. The last few months it's like everything is falling apart for us. Why!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear that.

What are his symptoms?

I will be saying a little prayer for ya and for your sweet dog. How old is he?

Did the veterinarian do any initial bloodwork? If so what did they show?

Sorry for all the questions...just curious.

Best of luck to you.

He's been nauseous and throwing up for a few days.
The vet did the xray first and found there was something in his tummy. At that point they said bloodwork wouldn't tell them anything else. His intestines and everything else are fine, no blockage or anything. Whatever is in there isn't coming out on it own though.

I still can't believe my more baby is getting his tummy cut open today. I'm praying it's just a foreign object and not a mass and if it is a mass that its not cancerous or hasn't spread.

Thanks for listening to my rants.

Thanks!

Yeah, the vet was actually puzzled before the xray cuz he was still going to the bathroom, still eating and still able to bring up grass that he was eating (and it was only grass nothing else).

She said they might have to call while he's on the table for us to "make a decision" depending on what they find.

I hope she was just trying to prepare for the worst by saying that!

Other than the last few days he's been healthy with no problems so it can't be cancer (hoping if I keep saying this I'll be right).

I talked to the vet to see how he did last night. He threw up 6 huge piles of grass!! I had asked her yesterday if what's in his stomach could be grass cuz of how much he's been eating and she said they usually bring it up. Today she told me I might have been right.

So they're going to do another xray and if his stomach is empty (PLEASE PLEASE LET IT BE EMPTY) they are going to do blood work to see what else was causing his nausea and upset tummy. Or they had said before when he first started no feeeling good that he could have eaten something that didn't agree and it might take time to work it's way through (I sooooooo hope that's all it is!).

Where does he eat the grass? If he's not eating grass from home, he might be eating grass that someone sprayed some pesticides on or something like that. Just a thought.
