Can we have a beauty thread? I need beauty tips.
I don't really wear any makeup besides powder and mascara. I want to start wearing eyeshadow or eyeliner. I'm black so its sorta hard to find whats good for my skin tone. Anyway I bought a purple eyeliner from Victoria Secret and it doesn't look like it can be sharpened. Has anyone ever used their brand of eyeliner and if so have you sharpened it before? lol Tell me what type of make up you use. I would like to know what products are good out there. THANKS!

I like buying the eyeliner that you can twist and have more eyeliner come up, its a load easier that using like a pencil sharpener. I think purple would look really nice with your skin
A good tip is just to use eyeliner on the inner upper and lower areas of the eye (does that make sense? Lol I don't know how to describe it) It makes a big difference and makes the eye pop without looking "overdone"

I hate using eyeliner pencils. What I do is take a very very thin brush and use a really dark eye shadow for eyeliner.

If you're looking for a clear and distinctive line, try liquid eyeliner. Otherwise, if you want a softer, blendable line, either use eyeshadow or pencil.
I use MAC because it doesn't melt away as quickly, as the day progresses. Edit - I should clarify that I'm not black so what I use, might not work as well on you. Last edited by absinthe; 10-17-2009 at 12:19 AM. |

I'm tan, so I normally stick to neutral colors like brown, forest green.. stuff like that. I have a few Jamaican friends that tend to get away with colors I cannot; baby blue, pink, lighter shades on their eyelids when we go out. But nothing too crazy.
![]() The pic above almost is like a pallete for what shades could compliment your skin. Not sure what shade you are, but notice the shimmers? I think it looks really nice btw. |

This is my absolute favorite eye make-up:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] I am a huge dummy about make-up (total tomboy growing up) and I was in Sephora with a friend and one of the employees demonstrated this on me. I love it! One half is the eyeliner (it's not the kind you sharpen), the other end is a smudging sponge, and the middle has coordinating eyeliner! Go to a store like Sephora or a department store and wander around. if you can do it during the week when they are slower, even better. Tell one of the sales women you want to learn how to use eye make-up- they will give you a demo! |

Have you ever seen the products by Black Radiance? They have some eye-shadows designed to compliment your skin tone and show up nicely. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I use Physician's Formula for my blush, and Maybelline for everything else (foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara).
Hmm, since your skin tone is dark, you might want to stay away from light eyeshadows and use one with a silvery-velvety undertone...if that makes sense. I absolutely hate pencil eyeliner, so I always use liquid, and there's a ton of colors...that way I can put a light coat of thin eyeliner on without overdoing the colors or adding a shadow.

Oh, and Black Radiance is actually really, really good too. I know, I know! I'm white, haha. But they have awesome cream blushes...I just can't use it because everything but Physician's Formula blush makes me break out.
