Drugs and Pregnancy

Okay, to start off, I havent had a period in 4 months. Since I was 15, since my very first period, I have been regular, every 28 days. I was addicted to oxy cotin for approx. a year and a half, and still had a period, regularly. For the past 3 months, I have used heroin almost on a regular everyday basis. (please do not lecture, I'm not here for that, and I'm currently in a detox program) My breast are very tender, especially nipples. My belly has grown a bit, but not much.. Before I got together with my current boyfriend, I had slept with the same person for 2 months and we used the lovely method of "pulling out" for protection. My boyfriend, who is supposed to to be fixed (had vasectomy 8 years ago) has listened and felt my belly and says he hears and feels a heartbeat. I have taken three pregnancy test, all of which have been negative. I am exhausted, dont want to leave the apartment, and I puke pritty much on a daily basis in the a.m. Just kinda wanting someones opinion on what the hells going on? Havent taken a test in over a month, plan to sometime this week.. but very nervous until then..

On the basis of three negative at-home pregnancy tests, it's very likely that you're not pregnant.

I would still recommend that you go to a doctor or free clinic and have a blood test done there. That way you will be 100% sure.

On the assumption that you're not pregnant ... I hope you can trust your boyfriend that he is actually "fixed". Given your drug abuse problems, age, and the infancy of your relationship, getting pregnant now would be terrible. If I were you I would err on the side of caution and use a method of birth control anyway.

By the way, your boyfriend can't feel and hear the baby's heartbeat. He's probably feeling and sensing your heartbeat in your aorta.

Not very likely. There's no way he can hear the heartbeat with his ear at 2-3 months gestation. They can maybe pick it up with a doppler device at 9-10 weeks but even that can be hard to do.

I'd take a test to put your mind at ease.

You should schedule an appointment for a blood test just to be sure. According to this article, heroin use can cause an irregular menstrual cycle

What Avman said is correct- your boyfriend cannot hear or feel a heartbeat with just his ear... at 20 weeks gestation it is sometimes audible with a special stethoscope, and at about 10-12 weeks with a doppler.

You said you have been using heroin every day for the last three months, but are in a detox program? So are you clean or still using?

I would see a gyn and get a blood test as BellaDonna suggested. And, if you are still using heroin, get yourself in an inpatient detox stat at the very least until you find out if you are pregnant or not.

I agree with others posters there is no way on earth he would hear the heartbeat, its so hard to pick up even with a doppler, esp if your only 2-3 months pregnant too. But i would go see your dr pronto, and if no period in a months time, re-test again.
I didn't pick up a positive until i was 10 weeks gone and had tested again and again before because we were trying, some women have very low levels of HCG in their urine til the pregnancy really progresses.

Also please please try and get clean if you are pregnant, there was a baby born to a mother who used when i had my son in the same hospital and it was heart wrenching to hear her baby crying and screaming because it had been born addicted. You must know how hard it is to quit yourself and the toll it takes on your body, dont do that to a innocent baby please.
