Sometimes laughter needs medicine

I'm not sure which topic this falls under, but I basically have a strange problem: I laugh at very awkward moments.

It could be right when someone says something quite serious or they are trying to explain something to me, but I'll just start getting the giggles. Usually I can catch it and make myself stop before things get out of hand, but it is still obvious to the people that I was about to laugh.

On top of this all, it gets even worse when I'm tired, which is what happened during an all-nighter me and a few others in my class were working on last night. Throughout the night, I must have had 5 separate giggling fits, and sometimes the others would laugh at me laughing but sometimes people weren't laughing at all, which made me feel guilty and nervous, which of course made it even harder to stop laughing! Not only does this become embarassing for me, but it also probably doesn't make me look good at all to the people witnessing this madness!

So, my question is what can I do about this? Is there a way I can keep myself from having these laughing spasms??

Are you a boy or a girl? If you are a boy, when you start giggling, put your hand in your pants pocket and on the sly, pull hairs out of your legs - that'll kill your giggle.
If you are a girl, think of the time your parent said that they took the family dog to go live on a farm but in reality, they put it down

[the above was gleaned from "friends" tv show]

Giggling is usually a sign of extreme nervousness. Solve that.

Bite your lip/cheek/tongue, or pinch yourself, or excuse yourself.
