Weight Issues

That's right. Im a skinny bugger by most people's standards. I stand the width of a hair under 6 and a half feet yet only weight 82 Kilograms (182 pounds)

How can I gain lean muscle and fast? I need more muscle to play the 4 spot in basketball, I get knocked around too easily and it really gets under my skin, really gets me angry. Have any of you guys gone through a smiliar experience? If so, at what age did you start to put on the muscle and bulk that I so desperately desire?


The only upside to my predicament is i have absolutely no fat, it's all skin and bones. (and a tiny bit of muscle)

Seems like its just not in your genes, but that never held anyone back, you need to simply eat aLOT more, and lift. The weight will come, but its going to take a while.

i've been trying to put on weight for quite awhile now. I used to weigh 115lbs at one point, now I'm 145 and I'm still trying to gain. If you're an ectomorph, which is sounds like you are, it's going to take awhile to put on the lbs. You've gotta eat a lot and lift. Religiously.

when did you stop growing?
your body may have been using up all its energy towards height.
you may find not too long after you stop growing muscles will be next on mother natures list.

hope i'm not over stepping the mark, i know no one's suggested it but just in case, please do not ruin your health with dangerous 'herbal bulking up remedies herbal = healthy=not at all,deadly nightshade is natural.

Skin and bones with no muscle? If your measurements are correct for someone of 20 years old 6 foot tall and 82 kilograms your BMI would be 24.8 using the following [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] A BMI of 25 is the upper end of a healthy weight. Clearly BMI is crude tool, especially for people with a lot of muscle, but I certainly would not regard someone as thin who weighs 83 kilograms and is 6 foot tall.

You do describe yourself as "a skinny bugger" and I wonder why you appear to be attaching negatives to how you see yourself. What would the advantage of weighing more give you, when you are probably around average weight for your height? I would have thought that physical fitness, stamina, co-ordination, and an ability to move quick for short bursts of time would be more important for basketball than bulk, but then I have never played the game!

6 foot 6, not six foot flat.

And yeah, it's not like im weak, but I would like more muscle to give me more explosive jumping power and better ball handling.

thank god were not building a house then, just jumping really high, and being able to muscle people around. Especially in his position.

You just need to get huge pretty much.

What I am saying is that better ball handling will not come with more mass; better ball handling comes through practice and talent. Look at the number of players who are less than massize - sure, some of them are pushed around alot, but they make up for it with their ability.

Look at Micheal Jordan, for instance. Sure, he could jump, and that might have been what made him famous. But look again at what made him lethal on the floor - it wasn't his explosive air time but rather his accuracy at the free-throw line.

Some skills you can pick up, but sometimes you just have to acknowledge the limitations of your natural body and then work with that body by playing to that body's strengths. I wish I could jump ten feet too. I'm 6'0" and it's difficult to touch the rim. My high school principle was 5'6" or so; my dad used to watch him dunk in high school. I could never play football with my body, it would be like demolition derby between a pinto and school buses. I made out well in marching band though - differnt experienc,e but then my life has been a differnet experience the whole way through.

michael jordan was a point guard.... a 4 position is the power forward, think Hasheem Thabeet, the only reason he has a job is because hes 7'3... Really
