Spiritual Places
I find some places more "spiritual" than others. And by places I mean, locations, towns, states, regions, etc.
For example, there is this one overlook in southern Utah that rises high above Grand Escalante. I don't want to give a name, because it's hard to find, and remote, and if everyone started showing up, it would lose it's attraction for me. My travels how ever have been very limited; all over the Midwest, some trips to the Rockies, and the southwest states. But other than that, not much. So I was hoping some body could tell me about places they've found spiritual and uplifting. I understand if you don't want to get too specific. Generalities, regions, areas would be enough. I plan on traveling as much as I can in the future. Just started teaching and will have summers off! |

hey there,
''spiritual'' places...that's an interesting idea. places that put you in touch with your true sense of self. do you have any desire to see canada? there are many places here that i would hold in the same regard as you hold the places you've listed. there are two in particular that i've always enjoyed. long beach...on the west coast of vancouver island is one such place. i've always found late fall is the best time to visit. the tourist buzz has usually worn off at that point. tofino is truly beautiful...and quite peaceful. also, in the canadian rockies...virtually anywhere. edith cavall is probably my favorite...although mt robson is also magnificent. if you're looking for solitude...it usually requires some longer hikes to get away from the crowds. edith cavall is beautiful. you can hike up past the tree line...and there's some amazing meadowland...surrounded by mountains and glaciers. stunning! the further you go...the more peaceful it becomes. what about alaska? northern BC as well as the yukon are amazing. again...fall tends to be ideal...so i'm not sure that'll work for you. but even late summer tends to be quieter as well. alaska is absolutely stunning in the fall...the tundra really comes alive. cheers

In Colorado: The national "White River" forest. If you enjoy camping at all that is the place to be! It's massive and has lots of places to go. Google that and you will find plenty of camping spots and places to be. My family always took me camping there when I was younger... and I still go back to this day to enjoy every moment of it. It's definitely uplifting and awe inspiring. A place where my soul touches the sky.

Anywhere along the coast of California, near La Jolla. La Jolla Cove is my favorite place in the entire world, and I have traveled a lot! The Canadian Rockies come a close second.

Great idea for a thread. Thanks for putting it out there. I think my idea of a 'spiritual place' can be about a place of great expanse and beauty, but it can also be about being in a place outdoors during a time of consequence.... resulting in a spiritual experience.
If I had to choose a place. I would have to go with Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands).. old growth forests, abundant sealife, rotting cedar totems, remnants of old Haida villages. One magical night when we were paddling to our campsite on a small island, we were treated to a meteor shower, northern lights and phosphoresence all at the same time. ..
