weight loss crisis

I feel so discouraged. I have spent the last couple months actively trying to lose weight. It took a lot of time but I finally lost 10 lbs.

You can't really tell that I'm overweight, but I know how much I've gained since I was at my smallest (it was my healthiest weight really) and it bothers me so much. I just want to fit back into my old favorite jeans.

I seem to have seriously plateaued, and what's worse, I think I'm gaining I'm so sad it's like I just can't win. I love food but now DREAD eating, I hate to eat, I hate how I feel after I eat. I think I'm becoming obsessed. I'm not anywhere near anorexic because I eat plenty, mostly because I'm scared by all the literature that says if you don't eat your metabolism drops and makes everything worse.

I eat well, mostly fruits, veggies, lean meat and sushi (made from home so I know what's in it). So far my downfall has really been drinking -- I'm a college student so go figure. But I was so good, and then I went on vacation in a big city over the weekend. I wanted to go nuts and eat everything in sight, but instead I allowed myself to order kind of what I wanted but made sure I never finished my plate.

Here I am and I feel totally bloated, I'm pretty sure I've gained. I go to the gym pretty consistently and I just feel like the excess fat should be peeling off, and it just isn't. I want to cry and give up because the one time I have a little splurge I gain all this weight. It's like you breathe on me and I gain.

I'm completely miserable. Someone help

hang in there. big hugs. do you have a food journal? it's ok to allow yourself the occassional splurge, it will keep you on track.

Thanks annie. Yeah I have actually been sticking to weight watchers, it has worked for me though it's slow goings. I try to track every little thing I put in my mouth but sometimes, like on vacations, that just isn't possible.

I just feel like I have put so much into this and I'm getting so little back out. Short of completely depriving myself, I feel like I'm giving it all I can. It's like, what more can I do?

I must be doing something wrong.

If you're used to eating only fruits, veggies, lean meats etc... then you are probably bloated from all the sodium you've consumed during the vacation which you don't normally during the week.
That alone will make a temporary weight gain and make you feel "fat" even though you probably didn't gain much. Give it about a week before everything is eliminated out of your system.

it's ok if you go on vacation and can't track and eat super low calorie foods. when you are vacationing, you are also walking, swimming, and that helps a lot. what i try to do is eat healthy in general on vacation (like ordering a salad, something light and grilled, have fruit as a snack). but if you are going out to a fancy lunch or dinner, then go ahead and splurge. especially when it comes to sampling the regional cuisine.
