Kids, MySpace, and how to snoop?

OK, going to get thrashed about this, but it's what I want to do. No lectures please, and let's not get this shut down, please!

My son has a G/F, I know very little about her, from another school district. They chat daily on MySpace. I would like to see how they talk, etc. And I want to make sure no one is going over normal boundaries.

But he recently had to reset his Yahoo mail account, so he has a new password. I knew the old one.

How does the "friends" thing work? I want to be able to be a friend, to be able to view his posts. Please don't lecture me about his privacy, but I need to keep an eye on this, in case.

Can anyone help? Reply or PM me if yuo want to.

TIA,
KG

if you know his email account and myspace user name you can have a "lost" password sent to the email and retrieve it... you can find out his user name either by looking when he is on myspace or doing a search for a "calvin browser in hicksville ky"

P.S. Sometimes you need to snoop or "investigate" with your children if things look funny

Make your own "myspace" page and then add him (and her) as friends. If they refuse (to add you) then it's time for a face to face chat.

How old is your son? He should be entitled to his own privacy.

Most of what is being said on myspace that you need to look at is in the mailbox (inbox and sent) you need to have the password to read those. That is where you will find things like if your child is using drugs or having unprotected sex or "talking" with dangerous people.

If your REALLY desperate you can buy a Key strike tracker (not sure if that is the actual name) but it tracks all keys hit on a keyboard so when someone uses your computer you can see everything they wrote or searched....A friend of mine's psycho boyfriend did it to her and had all the info sent to his house when they broke up so he could track her ...Don't really know how to do it but I KNOW FOR SURE it is possible..

My 13.5 year old cousin is on facebook - but a pre-condition of her joining was her father being her friend and being able to see what kind of info she put her her profile, and what she posted on other profiles. Why don't you tell your son that you don't feel comfortable with him being on myspace "alone", and would like to be his friend on there so you can see what is going on.

Maybe it's because I'm just turning 22, and don't have children of my own, but I really don't think you secretly logging onto his myspace is a good idea. If my parents had done that, and I had found out, I would have been absolutely livid, and I can say without hesitation I would have gone to great lengths to hide more info from them.

Why don't you ask him to invite his girlfriend over to dinner so you can meet her? That would give you a lot of clues as to how they interact.

Go onto his myspace then type his password...It will say wrong password then go into lost password and
"retrieve" it.. The password reminder will be sent to his email address..you simply log into his email and open the email with the password
