Why do you think its so hard for some to quit smoking and not hard for others?
I have heard many people say they tried to quit, but couldn't and i know at least 3 people personally that just quit cold turkey after years of smoking and said it wasn't hard at all. Why do you think that is? They didn't really have choices though, they were practically dead when the doctors told them that if they didn't quit, they were going to die, and one was pregnant but still, they said it wasnt hard. In fact, one said that the hardest part was the 3 day detox, but they were in the hospital anyway so they didn't have a choice. Like even some women who are pregnant yet claim they can't quit, not even for their child.

I guess they really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, wanted to quit
as opposed to just really, really...

For some, the nicotine addiction is as strong as a heroin addiction.

It might also have to do with the mindset. Honestly, with addictions, you have to want the need.

Well, the three you mentioned had a HUGE motivation to quit. (No choices, you said.) Yes, quitting smoking after years is very hard.

My ex gf quit really easily, but she started again, she said she wasn't addicted, and that she was an exception.

I've "heard" that some folks have more addictive personalities... meaning they get addicted to stuff (alcohol, drugs, smoking) a lot easier than other folks. I think it also comes down to motivation. Some folks really don't WANT to quit but they try... and that makes it much more difficult to do so.
My grandfather was a big smoker before I was born. My mom told me the story that he went to his doctor for a checkup after a heart attack and the Dr. basically said "You keep smoking, you're dead." My grandfather tossed his pack of cigarettes out the window of his car on the way home, and never smoked again. I always respected that story... talk about motivation! |
