does any one know what it feels like to be over medicated on anti depressants? and how do you know at the time that you are taking too much?

happy, carefree, relaxed. but i'm kind of going through a break up and i'm not very upset over it. at least not as much as i thought i would be. i kind of feel like i might be lacking a conscience and that my logical thinking is completely overriding any thinking/feeling that is based on emotions.

Oh dear, that might be a side-effect of the drug. I mean, not everyone handles break-ups in the same way, BUT if you are on anti-depressants, then they can certainly affect your outlook on life.

Rule of Thumb: If you feel really out of it and kind of in a haze, then you are probably being overmedicated. Also, you don't want the medicine to mask all of the normal feelings you experience when you break-up. If you go off of them suddenly then you may be twice as emotional.

Source: Its happened to me.

Are you seeing a counselor in addition to taking the medicine? If so, then thats perfectly fine. You just don't want to drug yourself up. Its tempting, I know.

Then maybe you need to cut down your dosage?

ya..i DO feel more like myself though.
i have also postponed this break up and am kind of looking forward to it. you know when you want to leave some one and then every thing about them drives you nuts? i'm at that stage. and i know being alone will be good for me. so i guess i'm not sure if it's the meds or of it's just me putting it all behind me and moving on. i'm not really freaking out about it. but i'm sure when him and i have the convo i will be emotional and bummed for a while.
i don't really feel like i'm in a haze or that i am out of touch with my emotions...but i am no longer feeling down and just..'blah.'
i do talk to a psychiatrist too, about twice a week. i don't know, maybe i'll decrease the meds by 25mg or something.

If you are talking to a psychiatrist, then things should be just fine.

Well, I'd say if you want to break up and think it's a good choice, then I don't see why you'd react badly to it?

but if you are finding you feel over medicated, bring this concern up with your psych and see what they say/think.
