Newborn Fawn

Alright, so I'm still in North Carolina and i was outside trying to make a phone call when I looked down into the flower garden to find a VERY newborn baby fawn (maybe a day old? two days old max)... I don't know what to do for it! It's SO hot out... I know not to touch it or anything like that.

I called my friend (whose parents' house I'm staying at) and she said to just let it be and the mom will come back for it...but it's been like 2 hours now and I just checked to see if it was there and it still is, curled up sleeping in the greenery.

I feel like I should call the DNR or something? It's SO tiny. Eek.

Any advice? Thanks!

leave it alone. dont touch it, dont move it. dont go around it if possible
mother deer leave babies alone for several hours at a time so predators wont be attracted to it.

Sooo many people think that the fawn has been 'abandoned' when they see this but really its just waiting. 9 times out of 10 the mother comes back by dusk and takes the baby and relocates it.

Really? Several hours? So I shouldn't be worried about it then? He/she's just sooo tiny and it's soo unbearably hot (90ish).

There are 3 dogs here wanting to go out, I hope mom deer comes back soon. (I know better than to let the dogs out)

Yeah it's common for the mother deer to stash the fawn in a place she feels is safe and then go off foraging. I've stumbled on a fawn in my backyard once or twice and just backed off and left it alone. Eventually momma deer comes back for the fawn and off they go.

yep. when fawns are born they have no natural scent. the more time the mother spends with the fawn the more scent transferrs to it. which is why they deposit their baby and only come back once in a while to let it nurse until it is older.
its pretty interesting.
i wouldnt worry about the heat.
