Going to italy with beautiful and skinny friend, help, need to look good too!

My friend is beautiful she looks like emma watson and keira knightley combined, and often gets told this, she is very svelte, size 2/4 and she has a designer wardrobe because her parents are incredibly wealthy. Anyway I'm going on holiday with her for a week which should be fun. I'm really excited about it. But I don't want to feel like her fat friend who doesn't match up to her. She even mentioned how she was going to go to the gym and get a fake tan before the holiday.

So anyway I will never be able to become as thin as her in a few months, seeing as she is pretty much straight up straight down and my body shape doesn't permit that. Anyway I would like to get myself into really good shape for this holiday so that I can look and feel comfortable with myself. I'm a size 6/8, somewhat slim. But I could afford to tone up and lose weight without it being a health risk of course. So anyway I am going to focus on upping my running to about 5-6 times a week. I usually run for about 45 mins 2-3 times a week and I used to fence 2 hours as well but I've quit it temporarily whilst i study for exams and I usually walk for 30mins/1hr a day. So I'm thinking running 5-6 times a week, walking an hour a day should do the trick in terms of exercise. But diet wise I'm not sure what to do. I'm in the middle of studying for exams so I don't want to crash diet nor do I think its particularly healthy, I did the lemon detox diet for 10 days last summer-that was hard work! Anyway I've got until the 25th of july so I'm thinking a high protein diet of some sort? Any advice? Also how would you guys suggest I go about staying motivated? I don't want to be all prepared for a week and then give up.

I think you're making a big mistake by comparing yourself to your friend. Not everyone is alike, or can be alike.

You seem to be doing a lot and keeping fit in general, which is great. You should be pleased with your exercise regime and you do a lot more than many people. The only other thing you could do, is perhaps eat healthy foods, lots of fruit, veggies etc and don't eat too much junk food. Other than that, you are doing enough already.

Learn to accept yourself for who you are.

The Italian men will love you just the way you are.

In many many cultures women with some meat on her bones is more attractive to men than some skinny boned anorexic. You are just fine...don't worry about it.

Never in a million years would I ever want to give up my very curvy Puerto Rican body to be some stick person.

She sounds too skinny. At least that's how I feel about Keira Knightley, and Emma is pretty tiny as well.

Anyway. No harm in toning up and getting healthy, but don't compare yourself to her. Curves are in and generally more coveted than a stick figure. The European fellas will flock to you first, I guarantee.

Be healthy and happy.

No she's not as thin as kiera knightley, she's got a very simular figure to emma watson actually, they look very alike. Yeah I think I'm gonna tone up and improve my figure. However I officially hate diets, last year my weight fluctuated SO MUCH because I yoyo dieted. Now I don't diet I just watch what I eat and exercise regularly but I allow myself to a little of something I enjoy here and there and have a few glasses of wine at the weekend. And as a result I have just been slowly slimming or at least staying the same weight but firming up, I don't really know as I don't weigh myself any more because I got too fixated but I can tell by my clothes etc. But anyway do you guys think if I just up the exercise, eat pretty healthily during the week, e.g. lots of protein and fresh vegetables and fruit etc and then allow myself a few treats over the weekend that'll do (+exercise)?

Eat healthy and exercise for yourself, not because you need to somehow match your friend. Her body type is her body type. There is nothing wrong with a size 6/8. Be happy in the skin you are in...there is more to a person than what size clothes they wear and whether or not they are designer clothes. Look at Paris Hilton...probably a size 0 or 2 and always in expensive height of fashion clothing. Yet she is one big joke. I hope you are going to Italy to enjoy the culture and wonderful things that country has to offer...having horny men ogling you and propositioning you does not make a vacation a success.

I find that being jealous of other people ends up being a very poor motivator. It might work for a while, but when they don't see very fast results, people generally abandon their diet and exercise. The best thing to do is to get your goals straight. You don't want to look good for your trip to Italy, you want to get healthy and look good for life. I find that people who try to lose weight for certain events tend to gain it back (and then some) once that event is over. Try a lifestyle change, not a diet.

Eating and excercise go hand in hand. Being strong in just one arena and not the other results in, well, little to no gain (except either muscular and or glutton gain).

Anywho. If you truly are serious about changing your weight and plan to stick to it for more than a few months (your trip and shortly after it), then feel free to PM me.
