What to do about gym class?

It is a school policy in my son's school that you must wear the official school gym uniform during PT class. He has one, I make sure it is in the bag HOWEVER, he refuses to wear it. He has said he is not changing in front of other students. Now I admire his modesty and his teacher has decided to not pick a point with him about it, but that is not saying next year's teacher will feel the same. Should I talk to the teacher and see if arrangements can be made for him to change someplace else? I really feel he should wear the gym uniform if that is what is required, he should follow the rules like the other kids.

I am not sure he would do that R2H, he has really big sensory issues to fabric, it is an exercise just to get socks on his feet in the morning, if they are NOT right (whatever that means) we have hissy fits. I am not sure if he would go for that but I can try.

I have the sock think too, so I can understand where he's coming from. One school of thought would be to offer him a choice. Either wear the uniform under his clothing or change in front of others.

Catering to him can turn him into the butt of jokes, since many of the other kids are also shy about their bodies and see him as a way to deflect attention.

He'll probably suffer less if he grits his teeth and conforms.

Public bathrooms make him CRINGE, he has a thing about public washrooms.

Yes, I think he should conform, however trying to be sensitive to his needs as well as he has sensory issues ,OCD and high functioning Autism. It is hard to strike a balance there, between following the rules and pushing TOO hard. He is not made fun of now he goes to a very small school with kids he has been to school with since he was 3. They have also been read the riot act by the Principal that nothing of that nature will happen in that class. I know he has been made fun of before because he is a very thin child and always has been and this may be part of it.
