2. If the answer to question one is yes, was it a fad diet? Was it prescribed by a doctor?
3. Which was/is the most effective?
4. Which was/is the least effective?
5. Which was/is the hardest to follow?
6. Which was/is the easiest?
7. What was/is the weirdest/strangest diet you've ever tried or heard of?

9. Has dieting helped you to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself?

If you can think of any other pertinent questions, please post them.

the only one that ever worked for me was the south beach diet - before i realised it's NOT a diet, it's a lifestyle change. I can't commit to the rubbish they wanted me to eat 24/7 so I eventually gave it up, and low and behold the weight came back on even though i was only eating 'normal' things/portions.

Moral of the story - eat slightly healthier and excercise slightly more.
I think that's just about all that you can do.

1. Have you ever dieted? If so, for how long? Attempted for about 5 days.
2. If the answer to question one is yes, was it a fad diet? Was it prescribed by a doctor? The south beach - it was not prescribed per say but I knew it would help my health.
3. Which was/is the most effective? It wasn't effective in the sense that it was not a long-term change for me. Maybe if I had reached phase 2. I couldn't follow the low-carb.
4. Which was/is the least effective? I don't really believe in them.
5. Which was/is the hardest to follow?
6. Which was/is the easiest?
7. What was/is the weirdest/strangest diet you've ever tried or heard of? The ice cream, chocolate and pizza diet. Come on, it's a diet - yeah calorie restriction will work but you'll just end up starving anyways!
8. Which is the most complicated or complicated-sounding? Diabetes diet =S
9. Has dieting helped you to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself? No, just made me realize that all food groups and importent. True nutrition only comes with all food group and eating variety.

If you can think of any other pertinent questions, please post them.

I think the point of my posting was missed. I am not dieting, nor was I planning on it, ever. I was not looking for advice on it, because I think, and have always thought, that it is a particularly unhealthy and ineffective (especially long-term) way to weight loss. I was simply curious about people's experiences with them, as I am sure they are quite varied and interesting. Thank you, Mousty, for answering my questions. In the future, I will know not to look to eNotAlone if I am trying to put forth a survey.

nothing about dieting is easy. it is easy to incorporate it into you lifestyle and make it a habit. that's how i did it. i will never go back to eating how i used to.

I don't diet but I've taken many courses on nutrition.
Weight Watchers is by far the best diet out there for women, but its a lifestyle...not just something you can do short term.

Isn't Weight Watchers just a point allowance?
You can basically just eat half a chocolate cake and starve for the rest of the day... (I've seen some of my friends do that so many times sadly enough). I would say the concept is great if it's paired with knowledge of nutrition (which I know some of the people on the board here do like Annie). I've been told by my a few of my friends (ok I have a lot of fat friends lol) that the "meeting" leaders are not nutrionists or qualified in any way. They are simply people that got to lose a bit of weight and are sharing their success stories. I don't mean that it's a bad thing to have motivational stories, but there should definetly be some professional backing behind the meetings.

I haven't met anyone who joined the core program because some food groups are limited, although it probably is a lot better as a lifestyle change.

if you do it correctly its one of the most effective as well as nutritional out there...

eating half a chocolate cake and starving the rest of the day would just be dumb of the dieter...there for they're not serious about weight loss, or nutrition.
