Atkins Diet...

Has anyone tried it? What were the results?

I tried a modified version of it (I did eat SOME low glycemic carbs) and had very good results.

I tend to follow a high protein/low carb diet. It keeps my weight under control.

It works... but then you're stuck not eating carbs for the duration of your diet. Why not just go for a regular calorie restriction one. Sign up at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and it'll tell you how many calories you should eat in a day in order to lose weight. It also tells you how many calories there are in all your food. Make sure you only eat what you're allowed to, and the pounds will drop off.

Atkins diet works off a similar principle, except instead of telling you how much to eat, they just tell you to stop eating a whole bunch of foods which are high in calories, thus making it more likely that you'll stay under your limit.

My father, mother, and sister all did the Atkins diet. My mother and sister lasted about a month.

My father did the Atkins diet to the letter for about a year and lost all the weight he was planning to lose (I don't know the exact figure, maybe 30-40 pounds?). He also started to regularly exercise during that year as well. After a year, he gradually started to add carbs to his diet. He's been on the diet for a few years now and still limits his carbs. When he does eat toast or spaghetti or whatever, he buys the "low-carb" brand even today. But he has had great success with it.

All of my immediate family tried and all of them failed.

The only programmed that seemed to work was weight watchers. My aunt lost about 50 pounds on weight watchers for her wedding. However, once she got off it, it mostly came off though. My aunt, although, has PCOS which makes her weight nearly impossible to control as it is hormonal based.

It works great, and you generally aren't hungry on the diet since you can eat filling foods, but you have to be strict about counting carbs to not go over the daily limits.

The weight falls off really fast on this diet, faster than on any other, but some people who are addicted to carbs have a hard time sticking to it, since you sharply curtail things like breads, sweets, fruits, potatos, rice, beans etc. So it eliminates a lot of food groups which some people can't deal with.

Sometimes you can kickstart a diet by going low carb for a couple months, then switching to a calorie counting method to ease back into regular foods again.

I have done it but after losing 14lbs I didn't lose anymore. It is not something you can keep up for a long period of time.

Say that, if I need to drop a lot of weight very quickly, then I do the two week induction, but I put the weight back on (and more) more or less straight away.

Its a quick fix, and you feel like crap doing it!

Can you drink any caffeine on it? I really just want to kick start
losing some "bloat" fast. Today I ate little sugar...only one diet soda
early this morning, no carbs, ate a boiled egg, grilled chicken with no bread, some string cheese and have been drinking water all day.
I also worked out when I got home from work.
