A smoking poll

Do you feel that you are at a lower risk of adverse health problems because you might smoke less than someone else?

anywhere from 0-10.... Some days, I don't smoke. Others, I'm stressed/bored/drunk and will smoke a few.

Whether you *feel* you're at lower risk is kind of irrelevant... what is relevant is whether you *are* at lower risk or not.

A lot depends on your own genetics and how long you've smoked.

I had a physiology professor tell me that if you smoked less than 3 cigarettes a day, your body most likely would be able to clean the toxins from your lungs and system.

But if you have a pre-disposition to lung problems or cancer in your family, then it may still be risky.

The other problem is that very few people are able to smoke less than 3 cigarettes a day and stick to that...

btw, i smoke no cigarettes at all and haven't since i was 18, when i was dumb enough to smoke 2 packs a day for about 18 months. I quit when i realized i was huffing and puffing to just get up stairs, which i shouldn't have been at that age. I just felt crappy all the time, and didn't realize how good i could feel again until i quit smoking and returned to normal.

Never smoked a cigarette. EVER. Both my parents were smokers and I had plenty of chances to, but never the desire.

And yes, I feel like I am far, far better off for it. My mother smokes about one or two cigarettes a day these days, and I still worry about the hours that each one takes off of her life.

I put that option because I was running errands the other day and overheard a guy telling someone else that he didn't have time to make it to the store to get his cigs and the topic went on about how he smokes 4 packs a day! I thought to myself, I'm suprised he can still breathe.

Never smoked, refuse to smoke, won't date a guy who smokes, but I worked as a cocktail waitress for a couple years so I probably inhaled the equivalent of a semi truck of cigarettes worth of smoke

Likewise. Both my parents were heavy smokers and always smoked in the house. I don't smoke, never have but I'm sure there are probably some spots on my lungs.

I used to smoke about 1-10 a day in my younger days, but then I grew up and realised I wanted to look after my health.
