Hair extensions....anyone?

Not sure if this is in the right area...but here is goes.

So Im getting married in June & want my hair to look wonderful! My hair is to the middle of my back right now, little brown but not very healthy or not as healthy as I would like it. Lately I just been wearing it up because I really really need to get to a salon to fix it up, cut, dye etc..& I dont want it looking like this for my wedding. I am not too crazy about my hair even if it's all done up.

I was thinking of getting nice, thick long hair extension for my wedding though. I want beautiful hair for that day. One of my friends a longgggg time ago got them done and she looked stunning! I remember being so freakin jealous of how great her hair looked.

I been doing some research on it & still have a lot of questions though. Has anyone on here have this done?

How much is it?
What quality is best?
How long do they last?
Does it damage your real hair?
Did you love the way you looked?
How did you pick the salon that did this? - its so hard to find a good salon around here

Any suggestions, advice would be appreciated! I also dont want to "test" this right before getting married so I was looking to have it done like 2 months before - this way if I dont like them I can plan to do something else...

I haven't worn extensions myself, but my sister has clip-ons that she wears when she goes out.

My advice to you would be to try out clip-ons for a while & see if you're comfortable with them.

Keep in mind that if you get them threaded in, it'll completely damage your hair. My friend had threaded extensions for a year & after she took them off, she had to chop her hair off cuz it was so damaged.

If you like your natural hair & only want it for your wedding, you can buy clip-ons & take them to the salon & have them incorporate it into whatever hairstyle you choose.

No I absoutely hate my hair lol. I use to like it but at this point I dont even care if it gets damaged because it already is.

I will need to get it cut in the long run anyway. My friend that had them done only did it for some occasion back in college, had them in for about 3 months I think? I dont keep in touch with her anymore so I cant ask how much damage it did.

Im not too crazy about the clip on idea because it wont help my look since I dont like my hair LOL

How did you friends hair look with the threaded extensions?

I bought two sets of real-hair clip-in extensions on ebay. They were $60 a set.

A friend of my sister's, bought two sets from the same seller (I don't remember the name anymore), had them dyed to match her hair, curled, and put in on her wedding day. She looked amazing and no one could tell it wasn't her own hair!

Her hair looked good, but she claimed it was so hard to maintain. When she first got them done, she dyed her hair black & got black extensions. It made her hair look much fuller & a bit longer.

A few months later, you could totally tell she had extensions in. The part where the threading was would always stick out, & her hair would look tangled with that dreadlock-y look

That's scary lol...I am not looking to have this done more then once though & only want to keep them in for about 2-3 months?

Im dead set on getting threaded extensions because that is the only way I will get my hair thicker, nicer & the way I want it for my wedding day.

Its just hard to decide which ones to get cause theres soooo many, what salon to go to, what color to get, when to do it lol etc...ugh!

I agree...My best friend had them for her wedding. Her hair was above her shoulders and the extensions were down the middle of her back. She did the clip in kind, but had her stylist put them in. The extenstions had quite a wave, so the stylist curled her hair some. It looked natural, except everyone knew her hair was abover her shoulders just a month before at their shower...lol It was pretty though, and its what she wanted, that's all that matters.

I think she bought the Jessica Simpson extenstions. Just make sure you get human hair, synthetic looks REALLY fake.

Ditto this. I considered threaded extensions a year or so ago, but ultimately opted not to do it because of the cost (astronomical), the maintenance (significant), and the short length of time they look really good. My hair is chin length and blond, and the salon I went to on the West coast quoted me a fee of 3000 dollars. They use Indian hair (which is supposedly 'the best', whatever that means) and then cut and color it to suit you. The cost comes from the density of the hair, rather than the length. For blond hair, in which each strand is very fine but there are TONS of strands, the cost is extremely high. I have a friend who is Chinese, and her salon used European hair (which they told HER is the best, go figure) and she said it cost 1000. She looked great at first, but she removed them after just 2 months. There are all kinds of restrictions, such as having to pull it back to sleep, not being able to swim, not putting it in a ponytail (because you can see the threads), etc.

I'm just growing it, instead.

Depending on where you live, extensions that are good quality can be anywhere from $1000-2000 for a full head, depending on if you're adding length or volume. You can get cheaper quality stuff for under a grand. The best, in my opinion having had them done, are Great Lengths (Italy)...there are many impostors with similar names, although there are some good ones out there that use high quality hair and protein bonds as well. They do not damage your hair, because there is no glue.

I love, love, love them. But it is very pricey.

They generally last 3-6 months (around 5 they start to thin out and not look as great). You can style them as normal, use your normal hair care stuff, brush them (as long as you use brushing techniques you would use on your normal hair, from end to roots, gently) and they hold curls beautifully. They are totally comfortable and virtually invisible.

Clip-ins would probably do it for you if you're having your hair done for your wedding. Get someone who knows how to, to clip them in. Good quality ones are anywhere from $60-150. I know Bombshell are good quality. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Jessica Simpson are OK, Beauty Supply stores carry cheaper brands as well.
