worried about my weight loss
Hi, I don't exactly know how to start. I'm 5 feet 10.5 inches tall, and lately I've become very hypochondriatic. I used to weigh around 150-160 lbs, but for the past month or so I've been at 140 lbs, and today I finally dropped below that to 138 lbs. I've always been very skinny and lanky, and haven't been able to eat very much at one sitting, but I am starting to become worried with how light I am.
I suppose I need some words of reassurance or something.. I went to the doctor two weeks ago and they told me not to worry, but I have hypochondria, so of course I'm still freaking out daily. That could possibly be the source of my weightloss and appetite loss, but again, I don't know.. This forum was called "you are not alone" hopefully I am not? |

Your BMI is within normal range, men are usually quite skinny, women need hips for their babies.
Hypochondria is an anxiety related issue(I have OCD so you're so not alone with regards to anxiety issues), anxiety can cause a lot of symptoms, one of which is appetite loss. anxietyzone.com >> This is an amazing site full of people who can relate to you if you happen to want to visit it. I go on there for my OCD and anxiety, it's a good place, maybe if you don't find much comfort here, you will there. You were told not to worry by your doctor, if something was wrong, he'd have seen that, no? You are okay. |

Has your appetite changed? Are you eating more or less?
And change in bowel or bladder habits?

yeah i've been eating less due to my anxiety I hope, and I've also changed my diet. I've stopped eating frozen foods and candy and junk food, and I eat salad pretty much every day now.. before I used to eat salad maybe once a month? Maybe more but I'm not sure.
I thought about this while I was at the grocery store just now and it made sense to me that it would be a reason for my weight loss. Thanks for the help, and I will check out that site you recommended Sarey. |

As long as you are in the "healthy weight" range you are fine, even if it is on the low side. Sometimes small changes in our daily lives affect our weights. People who start/stop walking/riding a bike vs driving, taking a job that involves period walking vs rarely getting up from their chair.. they can all cause your weight to fluctuate. People don't even notice the change until it affects their weight.
If you are that concerned you could try to eat more. Make sure you get 3 meals a day with a couple light snacks & include lean protein, dairy, healthy fats (like olive oil). I think I am often overly-concerned about my health too, so you are definitely not alone there! |

Anxiety can play a big part in your eating habits and if your anxiety is getting in the way of you being able to eat and feel good about yourself, than maybe talking to a doctor and considering an anti anxiety medication would not be such a bad idea.
