Diet advice for the vegetarian?
Hey all, I have been vegetarian for a couple of years and just have a few questions reguarding weightloss. I am nineteen years old and not necessarily overweight, I'm just not comfortable with where I'm at. I have no other health problems and have begun to walk and do light weight training, where previously I got minimal exercise. Now, onto the questions:
Would a moderate amount of peanut butter or cheese, particularly with breakfast, really affect weight loss significantly? Are carbs, such as pasta or rice, to be completely avoided, or just eaten in moderation? Would counting calories or simply keeping track of what I eat and grazing throughout the day be more beneficial? Would having one 'treat day', such as pizza for dinner one night of the week or dessert on a weekend, be completely bad, or rewarding? Any other pointers or suggestions are more than welcome!

Everything is fine in moderation. Pasta and rice for a vegetarien, tends to be where we get most of our meals from. So long as everything is in moderation with exercize then you will be fine.

Sounds like you're thinking right on track. Moderate carbs, good. If you count cals, are you going to classify them too? Sounds like a pain. Grazing obviously good. Not goind out of your explitive mind is always a good idea. Sounds good.

Like the previous posters said, moderation is good. Don't worry about counting calories, just keep track of what you've eaten, how much, etc. Basically burn more calories than you take in. DONT starve yourself. I don't think pizza once a week for dinner would be a bad thing. Rewarding yourself with foods that aren't even that bad for you can help you immensely, as then you aren't really going cold turkey on all the delicious, unhealthy foods, but you're sticking in one of them here and there so that you don't get as strong of cravings and get discouraged as easy. |
