Yoga/Pilates

I've always wanted to start doing yoga and pilates since I heard of the benefits it provides, but I've been reluctant to sign up for classes at the gym because of a very embarrassing incident some time back that has kept me from ever wanting to try yoga again lol. So I'm thinking of trying it from the comfort of my home with yoga/pilates instruction videos. Are these as effective as in-class instruction? Are they worth it? If you've had experience with this I'd greatly appreciate some feedback and recommendations.

I'm sorry, I'm so shallow, but I'm guessing you passed wind or something i public????

I would say to get over it, and go to a gym again. I don't think the vids ever work as well as doing it in a class - just go somewhere you have never been before, grit your teeth, and remember we are all human and have frail human bodies ,and EVERY pilates/yoga instructor will have seen this before!

haha no, but nearly as embarassing! If it was passing gas it's something I could get over and just control, but this other thing I can't. Have you ever tried the videos though?

You wet yourself???? Sorry, sorry...(But you could wear panty liners in future and loose fitting clothes!).

I have tried the videos for yoga - they didn't work for me, because I just didn't push myself hard enough, and also I think that I was getting into the wrong position. But if it's a choice between videos and nothing, I would do the videos.

But nothing is *that* embarrassing, you know - it really isn't!

I bought a yoga DVD and I like it. I haven't actually been to a class so not sure if it's as good as going, but I like it and I feel good after doing it! I heard that pilates are alot more in depth though, and apparently you should go to a class to learn how to do it properly.

FINE I'll tell you! lol. You know when air gets into your vagina and you queef? Well I queefed really badly lol, when the instructor was trying to get me to do this position. And I couldn't control it! And yes it's gonna happen everytime I do certain positions (until I get the hang of it) so I'm not going back to a group class lol.

How long have you been doing it? Have you seen/felt any changes in your body?

haha I'm sorry, I think you just have to laugh at the incident and move on. Trust me, EVERYONE has a humiliating story similar to that, things happen!

I think the videos are ok, but you will deffinitely not be as motivated and especially if you are a beginner its better to go to a group class so the instructor can help you get into the correct positions. You can really hurt yourself if you do things the wrong way.
