Anyone know anything about mixing medicines?

I don't take alot of medicine. I take one 10 mg of Lexapro when I wake up daily, a multi vitamin and sometimes an iron pill (not medicine) and at 10 pm every night I take my b-control pill.

Well, I was perscribed Lexapro about 6 weeks ago and it's been working wonders. However, before they gave me 0.25 mg of Xanax. It wasn't supposed to be a long term use, so they gave me Lexapro instead.

I was having really bad chest pains yesterday at work and I wanted anything to make it go away. I've had a few panic attacks this year, so I keep my xanax in my purse. Well I took it, and I forgot to think of how it may react with the Lexapro. I've heard that it doesn't do any harm, but after I took it I felt extremly depressed. I was easily irritable, I wanted to cry, and I was thinking crazily. Like suicidal like things, which is TOTALY UNLIKE ME> Before I was on lexapro, I would take xanax on occasion when I would feel really upset and it totaly calmed me down. No side affects at all. And I don't have any side affects on lexapro, other then having dialted pupils the first 2 weeks I was on it, a low appetite, and some time being tired, but that's it.

But could mixing the 2, and then taking my b-control that night of made me all emotional and depressed? This lasted a few hrs. Then I was back to normal, THANK GOD. I gave my xanax to my mom in fear of it happening again. I would rather deal with a panic attack then feeling like that again!

What do you think?

First of all, are you sure the chest pains were from a panic attack?
Second, I think you really should talk to a doctor about this. Self-medicating can lead to a lot of problems.

Well considering the chest pains stopped shortly after the xanax, I'm assuming it was.

But it also started after I had hot tea at starbucks, so I'm not really sure.

I don't think you're supposed to take any two SSRI's together. Not usre but Ithink that's how it is. I wouldn't take ONE.

Right, call the Rx. Don't think your bc had anything to do with it. Check with the Rx.

Study up on them, yourself.

Lexapro is a SSRI and Xanx is a benzodiazepine......A benzo is commonly prescribed to counteract the initial increased feelings of anxiety after starting on an SSRI so the two shouldn't cause a huge problem......having said that...everybody reacts to drugs/meds in different ways. It may also be affected by the birth control pill.....some studies suggest that it inhibits the metabolism of certain drugs which could lead to accumulation within the body.

I would suggest going to your doctor and having a chat and possible medication review.

Eeek! Do not do that without talking to your doctor first.
