I've done a couple detox/fast/colon cleanse before and they were okay. There is alot of mixed information out there about it.
I used to work in a Gastro docs office and would see colonoscopy's all the time & trust me a heavy dose of an OTC laxative cleans you out fine. Alot of the colon cleansers out there on the market I think are quacky, nothing that some Fleet phospho soda will do. I also don't understand the real health benefit, I think it's mostly mental, you feel 'cleaned out'

Don't do it. It doesn't serve any purpose unless you need to be cleaned out for a colonoscopy or unless you want to walk on the red carpet wearing a skin tight dress and having a flat stomach like the stars do. When you get "cleaned out" you don't feel any different...you are still the same you and the minute you start eating food again you will be full of crap again. This colonics business is really just that...a business...trying to convince people they need to do something they really don't need to do. Wait until you really need to cleanse yourself for a colonoscopy before you go down this road.

I ordered the 7 day cleanse from Arbonne, got through 3 days and just couldn't do it anymore....the taste was DISGUSTING! A friend of mine is taking the Triple Chloropyll pills from GNC. She said they really cleanse you good...if ya know what I mean. I'm going to try them.

Colon cleansing cleans out the stuff that is "stuck" on the walls of your intestines as a result of bad diet and eating habits. While it's "good" in that sense, when you're being cleaned out, you're also removing all of the good bacteria within your intestine that keep your digestive tract balanced and functional. Some colon cleansing centres provide you with nutritional supplements to build back your bacteria count.
I don't know much about the pill version, but personally, ingesting a chemical to purge your body in that manner seems like it would be more hazardous than helpful. Just imagine what it would have to do to your insides. :S |

My friend has Chrohn's and she has had the physical cleanse (with a medical hose type instrument) done. She said that it is amazing, albeit a bit painful. I have IBS, and have been told that it could be very helpful for me too. I have heard of pill and powder versions, but wasn't sure if they actually do anything. I'm just so sick of the bloating and discomfort. I sound like a commercial...lol

It can mess up your intestines just like laxative abuse (and trust me, you don't want to affect your peristalsis). People get addicted to them also.

I heard the "real deal" ones at the doctor help keep your skin clear too. HMM. But that is way too scary.

I simply alter something in my nutrition plan when things get out of whack down there. It works. I eat about as pure a diet as you can get shopping in the stores. No additives, no sodium, no refined sugars, nothing that you couldn't grow or raise yourself given some land and resources. No dairy, no wheat - eliminating both of those from my diet alone eliminated all intestinal issues I ever had. Only issue that affects me now is during PMS when my uterus swells up (it's tipped and sits on my colon).
Not preaching, just offering an alternative that I've seen work from experience. Doesn't mean it works for everyone, I guess. |

I can't have dairy, wheat isn't good for me either. I work at a yogurt shop so staying away from dairy is HARD.
