Birth Control (thread for the ladies on BC)
If you are on BC, what type do you use?
What do you like/dislike about it? Don't worry, I'm not looking for medical advice, just would like to hear from a range of people about your experiences. Thanks!

Implanon rocks my socks. Small stick inserted into my arm, good for 3 years, no side effects whatsoever, 2 periods a year. Best $700 I have ever spent.

I have been on BC pills for many years. I have no issues with weight gain or mood swings, although I have known others with that problem. I have also done Seasonale, which is the BC pill you take and only get your period every three months. I experience spotting in the end of the second month on that plan. Even with the spotting on ocassion Seasonale has been my favorite BC so far after 10+ years.
I was having some trouble remembering to take my pills lately and thought I would see what else was out there. I've been pretty stressed and collapsed into bed most nights, forgetting completely until the next day. Not very effective right? (Luckily I haven't been active so not an issue!) Recently I switched to the Nuvaring to see if that would be easier for me because you wear it three weeks, then take it out a week, use a new one. However, I has expected it to be about the size of a silver dollar and it isn't at ALL! It's... HUGE! It is a soft plastic ring that is about two inches across. You are supposed to wear it 100% of the time even during intercourse and I cannot imagine how weird that would feel for the partner. Anyone else got opinions or experience with the Nuvaring?

Mirena, $100 bucks, I got really good insurance and went through pharmacy benefits, that thing costs nearly 600 bucks. Good for 5 years up the vagina near the uterus, lol. On the brochure the side effects are 1% if anything for just acne, but so far I have none and my periods are soon disappearing.=] I love it=] No pill to have to take every day!
I tried nearly every pill there is. I know all the majority of side effects on everything. I spent so much time researching on not what the makers write, but peoples experiences etc. Nuva ring people have said it can come off with sex, especially rough sex, hair loss and loss of sex drive. |

My best friend also has used an IUD for the past 6 years since her daughter was born (and not while she got pregnant and had her son during that time either) and SWEARS by the IUD. Best thing ever in her opinion! I'm under the impression that it's not an option for those who have not had a vaginal birth however.

I've been on the pill for about 7 years now.
I started originally for period regulation and some added benefits, but they never really came. I still suffer from periods lasting 7-10 days, cramping, etc. So I never really got that benefit of the pill. I guess the only things I don't really care for is when it becomes less effective. Nothing beats throwing up minutes after taking it on your first week and having your entire pack be ineffective. Thats the only part that I get frustrated with, being sick, antibiotics, etc and you're pretty much just wasting your money on the pills. Also the decrease sex drive. There was a month where I wasn't on the pill, and we were animals. The recent one I switched to, its been a month without even a hint of interest in sex. Defenitely switching off of it. I also experienced alot of vomitting and nausea with the first pill I tried at 16. Got off that one pretty quickly and ended up on another one that worked great.

The antibiotic thing sucks - but no matter what wouldn't that effect any hormone-based BC? Not just pills?

IUD well as far as mirena, my doctor gave me this tablet to put up the vagina the night before and then put a cream the day of the procedure. It didn't hurt just a slight cramping. So your doctor has to know how to do it. As for the whole childbirth thing is utter bs. No offense, it says on the website, but its your uterus or what not that determines it. I never had a kid and I have it. =]
Yaz, yasmin-kill sex drive loestrin- makes you break out ortho tri cyclen- crazy physco b lol orto tri cyclen low- acne im having a hard time remembering all the pills i've taken haha. But anyways each woman is different and there is a website where people put their side effects or opinions about each pill there is so before you do take a bc pill its actually very smart to look things up on it, even though all woman are different there is the fact some people get a general side effect. |

I was on a bunch of different pills.
Orthotricyclen--I got really fat and coudln't get wet for sex to save my life. Allese--no sex drive Yasmine--was my favorite, not really many problems with it Yaz--didn't like it, lost my sex drive, went back to Yasmine before I got Implanon. I can't remember the other pills I was on.
