maintaining my new svelte figure

I've recently lost about 10-11lbs on the master cleanse lemon detox. For those of you who dont know what it is, its basically a fast consisting of absorbing your calories through about 6-10 glasses of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Anyway obviously some of the weight I've lost is just water weight. However some of it is actual fat. I'm really happy with my body right now and I've read that many people are able to maintain their new figure after the cleanse providing they have a healthy diet. I'm seriously scared of gaining the weight back. I know I will obviously gain about 2-3lbs back but I dont want to gain any more back. I'm now trying to eat a high protein diet and my natropath made me quit the fast on the 9th day as she said it wasn't going to do my body any more good so I kinda quit a little early and started eating solid foods faster than the book reccomends. I did only eat soup and vegetables on the first day though. But I'm guessing this is ok as I'm young and my digestive system is probably quite efficient. Anyway my natropath is making me eat about 50-60g of protein a day, 2-3 cups of vegetables and some low gi carbs. She wants me to eat three meals a day and have two snacks, she wants me to also eat a lot of nuts and seeds and avacado's and she said I should try to eat 2 eggs a day. This seems like a lot . I can manage the other stuff but I dont think I will be able to have the two eggs everyday. But I basically want to maintain my figure and maybe loose a couple more pounds, would you guys say this diet would help me do that? And I've gotten so scared that tommorow morning I'm going to go power walking for two miles before I do my two hours of fencing. If I exercise often and eat like this, I'll be fine right??
N.B. I have hypothyroidism but I'm on 50mg of levothyroxin so its being treated.

Nuts are also very calorie intensive if you eat a lot of them. Also, most people don't recommend eating 2 eggs every day due to the cholesterol in them.

If you want to keep the weight off, why not cut out all junk food and sugar? Also control your portion size. But walking everyday will be the best prescription to keep weight off if you do 30 minutes a day, cut out junk food, high fat foods, and excess carbohydrates.

To see how much weight you actually lost you can do some math and get a general idea of how much you will gain back. Figure how many calories you got from your sugar water over the 9 days and the figure your [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Add a few hundred calories for for exercise and basic functioning levels of motion and such. Sum up how many calories you burned over those 9 days. Find the difference from calories in versus calories out and divide the result by 3500. To burn 1 lb of fat you need to use 3500 calories.

If I remember that whole thing is using laxatives, if you used salt water laxatives its even worse. Your body will have excreted a lot of water, so its probably mostly water weight with maybe 2-3 lbs of fat used.

I have kept my weight off for years not by any diet but by portion control. I can now eat whatever i want, the trick is i just get full very quick and easy. Once you train your body to eat smaller amounts the stomach will shrink to accomodate. The average food portions people eat today is WAY too much. A person with an average metabolism will never have to diet if they control HOW MUCH they eat. I have not turned down a snack or meal type in ages becasue my body knows when it is full and my brain tells me to stop eating.

I aslo NEVER eat fastfood. It is full of calories and very little nutritional value. Not to mention it makes me sick everytime i eat it. Might taste ok during but later i feel nauseous.

I pretty much never eat junk food, except once a week I allow myself something that I want that is possibly unhealthy and then I stop. And my diet is very low sugar. Yeah nuts and avacado's are quite calorific however, my natropath wants me to eat them to get my health better as my immune system is damaged by my hypothyroidism. She wants me to focus on my health, she says my weight at present is not affected by how little or how much I eat or exercise. Its hormonal and to do with my thyroid. I mean thats true but I can still exercise some power over it. She says if I cure my problem first which is the cause of weight gain and such then weight will come off. But thanks for that.

Have you addressed the thyroid issue with a physician? If you have an under active thyroid medication can be very effective at controlling your metabolism and helping maintain a body weight.

I'm already on medication (synthetic thyroxin hormones-50mg levothyroxin) and I see an endocrynologist every three months. But that is only helpful to an extent. I'm also a person who has a disposition to gain weight in their teens-worst of both worlds really. But yeah the meds help to an extent.

weight is always affected by what you eat and exercise, so i don't get what your naturopath is saying.

A low thyroid means your metabolism is slower, hence more of what you eat is stored as fat because you are burning less food as energy.

If you up the exercise, you also up your metabolism and burn more of what you eat as energy rather than storing it as fat. And if you eat less, you have less to be stored as fat, or your body has to burn your own fat to provide the energy you need.

The Syntroid will provide the thryroid hormone necessary to replace the hormone that your body quit making and your metabolism will be correct and speed up again. * * * * * * * s and nuts don't replace thyroid hormones, the sythroid does.

I'm not sure what she is saying about the damaged immune system either, and * * * * * * * s and nuts won't fix immune system problems. If you eat sufficient quantities of fat (which is high in * * * * * * * and nuts), you will gain weight. So a couple slices of * * * * * * * won't hurt you, nor a few nuts every day, but if you are eating whole * * * * * * * s and lots of nuts, you will gain weight.

One small * * * * * * * has 350 cal. and 30 grams of fat. One cup of almonds has 825 calories and 75 grams of fat. So a handful of nuts is 250 cal. They are both very high fat.

Be a bit careful about following naturopaths or other alternative medicine where the person has not been properly educated. There are all kinds of crazy diets and advice out there not based on science at all, but are fads.

You are not overweight at all at your height/weight, so i would suggest all you really need is some regular exercise (like walking) and better portion control. Try eating 3/4th of what you normally eat (i.e., if you normally have a cup of rice, eat 3/4 c., and if you normally eat 8 oz. of meat, eat a 6 oz. portion. If you go out to eat, eat only half of what is on the plate since restaurants overdo portion size.

It is not hard to maintain weight if you control portion size and avoid snacking on junk food or high carb. or high fat foods.
