I'm 20 years old and about to enter my 3rd year of college. The first year and a half I pursued an International Studies major, but that fell through. Last semester, I decided to major in Psychology and minor in Economics.
However, I've recently discovered that my school offers a major in Electronic Media and Communication, or audio/visual production. The only thing I've ever wanted to do seriously since I was a little kid was work in the film/television/music industries (behind the scenes). I always wanted to pursue this, but I have a full ride scholarship to a major university, and academia has always been something I'm good at. Basically, I was afraid to pursue something outside the norm. I realize now that life is short and I need to take this opportunity while I can. However, I know I need a back up plan. This brings me to my question: What should I minor in? I'd like to continue with Psychology (since it interests me more than business). If not that, Economics would be my second choice. But would it be more helpful to minor in Business or Management? Someone please help me! My family and all the school counselors are totally useless!! I'm so confused, I can't take it! |

I know most people will go in one direction, so let me explore the other.
People always say, "Life is short. You could get hit by a bus tomorrow, so you should make the most if it while you can." Bullplop. Life is long. Chances are you won't be hit by a bus tomorrow, and the decisions you make now will stay with you for the next 50 years. I'd stick with the norm, and pursue this later as a hobby of sorts. Part-time study, and such. |

You have to think of what type of job/career you really want to spend the next, say at least 10 years, doing. I would HIGHLY recommend doing some internships with different disciplines that interest you.
I wouldn't worry too much about what your minor is going to be because minors are rarely looked at by employers unless they are in a foreign language. I spent 2 years working after undergrad before I knew what I wanted to do and went to graduate school to make sure that came true.
