Well they are just going to give you drugs that will make labor start.
I hear that it makes labor faster and its easier because the drugs help you along. I know that my friend was induced and had a baby in 4.5 hours. Thats a relatively short labor considering it was her first child. She didnt even have pain meds, the crazy woman.

It depends on your tolerance for Pitocin and how much you're given. My ex's contractions literally went off the chart -- the printout was a straight line at the top of the paper -- and she felt like she was going to shoot little Timmy across the room. A nurse came in to the labor room, looked at the readout and ran out shouting, "Oh my God! She's hyperstemming!" Not the model of professionalism, imo.
Your experience may vary. |

My labor was induced twice.
First time didn't work... Second time I ended up getting a c-section. I only dialated up to 5 cm. And every time the uped the pitocin the baby's heart rate would drop down. You also go on cervidil for 24 hours before you get on pitocin. I cried when I had my first contractions. I didn't think it helped my labor at all, but that's also because I was a first time mother too. |

any chance that you've tried rubbing your nipples. I've never had an induced labor, but a friend just told me that with her last child, her doctor was days away from inducing and a friend told her to rub her nipples, she did one afternoon and she was in labor that night.
I have no medical basis - but hey, it doesn't hurt to give it a a try. Anybody else here of this? If you give it a try flor, let us know if it works. |

i was watching a new documentary, "The business of being born." really interesting stuff about childbirth and how the women in the US often have induced labors when they really don't need one, just to get the woman in and out of the hospital quickly, but it seems to lead to more pain for the mother, not less. it makes sense, our bodies are designed to give birth naturally, so why all the intervention?
